I'm wondering if it is for a k3 bundled with it.
And I wondered if they accidentally put a 1 on the front of the price.

I was hoping for interchangeable viewfinders like the LX has. Oh well.

Several posts have been removed that were NOT pertinent to the subject posted and definitely were not about Pentax News and Rumors. Please keep on track guys.

- the sensor is the Sony 36 Mp
....
So, is the sensor cat officially out of the bag? Or do we still need to tally up and weigh the credibility of various reports that the sensor is 24, 36, or 42 MP? I wish someone who knows for sure would at least give a wink or something, about this 36 MP number.

Either way, let the analyzing begin!

The original Sony 36 MP sensor was a bit noisier and generally *slightly* inferior to the Nikon D800e sensor, although a tad sharper due to the true lack of an AA filter instead of the D800e's "cancelled" AA filter. In the real world, you'd probably never tell the difference.

All in all though, from an astro-landscape perspective I'd be disappointed in the use of that exact sensor, (if it received no processing upgrades / changes whatsoever from Pentax) considering how much better the Nikon D810 sensor is at both high ISO and long exposures, or the high ISO / long exposure capabilities of other sensors like the D750 and Sony A7R II.

The "next" Sony 36 MP sensor, seen in the D810 and D810A, offers a whole new base ISO of 64, and especially in the D810A the high ISO performance is pretty good, on par with the D750 in some ways and more useful in other ways.

TLDR; generally speaking I strongly hope that 1.) Pentax is receiving the newest 36 MP sensor possible, and not some warehouse leftovers from the D800 / D800e era, and 2.) Pentax is able to offer an equal or greater ADC processor that delivers a final result as good as the current champions at full-frame high ISO work.

Then again, I understand not everybody is interested in astro-landscape work with this camera. I do hope that no other compromises are made. I think we can all collectively hope that this sensor is as much of a younger sibling to the 645Z as the laws of physics will allow.

Back to square one then...
Or did you just mean that it's not official?

GOOD. I shall continue to hope that it will match / beat other competing FF sensors in various aspects, (high ISO, dynamic range, and overall color / tone quality) to the extent that it makes the 645Z proud, and most other FF shooters jealous. I know that is a very tall order considering what the low-light & dynamic range champions from Nikon and Canon are producing, and what the jack-of-all-trades Sony A7R II is capable off, but considering the image quality of the 645Z, I think it's not a false hope to cling to through the holidays.

I'm pretty sure it will be a newer version of the 36mp sensor (or maybe a 42mp one (or maybe 24mp))

That is a bare minimum of what I'm hoping for.

I still can't help thinking, it seems that compared to the K-5 II sensor or the latest-and-greatest Nikon 24 MP APS-C sensors, ...Pentax got a bit short-changed with the K-3 II sensor in some respects. I feel they should have fought a little harder to get an up-to-date 24 MP sensor that matches the record-setting high ISO and dynamic range performance of Nikon's 2015 DX bodies.

What's wrong with you guys. Pentax said "Mid thirties" as if there' something besides 36 MP. The guy who handled one briefly says it's 36. Does someone have to club you over the head with a 36 once baseball bat?

When did Pentax officially say that?! Do you have a source?

And to be honest, we have heard too many "I talked to this one dealer and he said camera X will have feature A, T and C." stories that turned out to be wrong to still take these rumours seriously.
