Asahi Optical Co. was formed in 1919. LX was actually released in the
61st year of Asahi Optical Co. (1980) so it was marketed as released "in honor of . . . . . "
The
Asahiflex IIA was released in
1955. The
AP was released in 1957. An LX-derived designation
in honor of the 60th anniversary of either legendary camera has precedent.

"World's first 35mm SLR with microprisms on focusing screen. First Japanese SLR with fixed pentaprism. First Japanese SLR with rapid-wind lever. First pentaprism SLR from Asahi Opt. Co. and first example of stylish and rational design in a pentaprism SLR. This SLR set industry standard about styling and controls layout, then copied by Japanese and German industry."
