How about K4? Never been done before. Room to move etc. Maybe even K4-F or KF-4.

I don't see "room to move" when you already have the K-5 on one side and the K-3 on the other... if they skipped over 4 going between those two, I can't see them coming back to it now, especially not with the Japanese phobia around the number 4 -- note that Olympus with their E-P/E-PL lines and Panasonic with their G/GF lines also gave 4 a miss and went straight on to winter 5.
(And if Wikipedia's article on Pentax cameras can be trusted, they've never had a K-mount camera with a 4 in its designation before.)

Given that the teaser concentrates on the unique Pentax history of innovative, ground breaking camera's, this announcement is about as tantalising as it gets. Brand new format? Surely that isn't Engrish?

they've now amended it to:

"Coming up in spring 2016!
PENTAX is launching a full frame digital SLR, brand-new format for PENTAX." (italics mine)

And corrected the misspelling of PENTAX in the Japanese version.

They've probably been reading this thread :-)
Next time they should just run the draft text by this forum first, in both languages.

It's interesting that they highlight the LX, as if that embodies what they are aiming for with the new camera.

Thanks for that link. I am NOT an equipment junky and, being retired, have to be careful in the dollars and cents department. However, I have for years been a fan of Pentax and have 2 ME Supers and and an MG. Although from a bygone era, those film cameras are, in my view, small, svelte, beautiful. As is the LX.

Therefore, the prominent inclusion of the LX image really got my attention. If this new camera is going to be as elegant as the beauties then I can feel myself being seduced already.

The solution is simple: Use positive integers.

Pentax, all along, has been using negative integers with the pinnacle being -1 (K-7, K-5, K-3, K-1) so make the full frame bodies use positive integers (K+1, K+3, K+5, K+7).

I think in the Theta (Θ), Ricoh have already given us a clue about what they might be planning to use in the naming convention for the full-frame: the Greek alphabet.

Hence look out for:

K-β, K-δ, K-Γ, K-λ, K-η, K-ε.

To say honest, I don't understand - how to be with the names of FF and top APS-C.

K-S3, 4, 5, 6 e.t.c - for many years forward. No questions.

But...If the camera will be K-1, what's the next? How to distinguish FF and top APS-C?

I hope they don't do the exact same as Olympus, so we get an LX-D-EPL-CL-FIA-whatever. One can't say that that OM-D-EM nomenclature is very catchy.
