Meh ... some manufacturers make firmware updates matter, including sizeable improvements on performance (e.g. AF) and adding new, exciting features to cameras that have been on the markets for years. Ricoh just adds compatibility with new lenses and the usual imperceptible 'general performance increases'. Pretty disappointing, to be honest. The tethered shooting for the 645Z seems nice (about time, too), but why none for the K3 series and K-S2?

The 645Z has always supported tethered operation. What has changed is that there is now a plugin for Lightroom that allows shutter release from within that program coupled to automated import. This is similar to the built-in tether support Adobe offers for select model Canon, Nikon, and Leica cameras.* You can also view, but not change a limited set of camera settings from within LR.

Conventional wisdom is that automating LR import using a monitored directory along with tethering software that actually allows full camera control (e.g. Pentax IMAGE Transmitter 2) is a much better solution than using LR by itself.

As for the K-3 series...despite the obvious programming interface similarities, Ricoh has opted to not support tethering on its flagship APS-C body. Booo...

Write directly to the manufacturer, don't write on forums and expect manufacturer will read it.

With enough of requests from users, they will certainly do something.

It is about time Pentax users stop communicating with rumourmongers and forum users alone as their way of communicating "what they want from the manufacturer", but instead speak to the manufacturer directly.
