The lock pressure is not obligatory.
For sure the last D1N0 suggestion would solve anything.

Maybe this has been said (or maybe it's what you're saying now), but is it big enough to run your finger over it to select focus point, like an old track pad?

You could operate focus points with your index finger and the shutter with your middle finger.

This does not sound very comfortable, and I don't think I have flexible fingers enough for this.

Both fingers are on top of the camera. Try putting your index finger on the top screen as if it is a touch screen en you middle on the shutter. It does require a two handed grip to be comfortable.

This will make it difficult to change focus point when following a subject using a long lens, unless you support the lens with something else than you hand.

You need to have your finger like 5 cm apart and also be able to move you index finder very precise.
I find this very hard to do even if supporting the camera with both hands.

A touch screen would, imo, let you chose af points with left or right thumb easily.

Pentax won't do that, ever; their cameras are easy to use.

But no use for those who like me use the (presumably rear) screen *only* to review photos and occasionally to check settings. Top touch screen would be too small and awkward for most people to use like that anyway.

No more than you ear cause issue on smartphones. This can be handled.

Or have an assistant standing by your side, who can adjust your AF points while you keep your eye in the viewfinder.
