I believe this would be useful when you can't change your position, and 200mm is too short and 400mm is too long

Typically, in a hide as a complement of FA*600/4 (and DFA150-450 when light permits)

For a general purpose shooter, a 70-200mm would probably be worth the extra weight, but for somebody who only needs telephoto the 200mm prime might be a good, smaller option.

I guess I just don't see a use for it of course that doesn't mean there isn't a use for it! I also don't see much use for 300 on FF, so I guess its just me and the things I shoot. I was just wondering for what purposes someone would want that lens...

It's 28th out of 43 Pentax lenses on B&H, ranked by best seller. I guess its got its uses, just a bit specialist. I'd understand if it was a macro
I own the lens. My wife is a wedding photographer and wanted a 200mm f2.8 lens. She tried out the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 by renting it, but said it was too heavy for her to use and so we got the DA *200. It is a very nice lens -- smaller than any 70-200 I have tried and quite sharp.

Depends on the situation. Often I find it is easier to locate the target at a shorter length and then zoom in for the actual picture

The OP claims there was a Dealer Room and private viewing of the K-1 and lenses. While not impossible there is no such room on the site map, unless there was a Pentax Hospitality Suite.
Well, I was at the CES & visited Ricoh's booth on both Wednesday & Thursday, all Ricoh had on public display were their Theta cameras. If there was any Pentax products there they were well hidden. They said since the full frame was not ready they were only displaying & demostrating the Theta.

one of the sharpest Pentax lenses I think, lightweight ,basically glued to my K3II,and if the K1 has better low light ISO,then its perfect. And after using the 150-450,the DA300* feels like a 50mm!!

Pentax is a master of keeping their product lineup a secret. We should put them in charge of national security.

BTW, Good to see another Indiana member on here!

I agree with both of your points!

Pentax will do what Pentax will do.
If I didn't currently have a job, I'd say "wake me up after CP+", because nothing but talk will happen much before then.

300 mm on FF is not so bad - give me a 2.8/300 and it could make a nice 5.6/600 as well. Being used to the DA*300 with f/4 it will look different on FF compared to APS-C, but it would still be tele... happy to see a 2.8/300 or 4/400 arrive... Pentax will need some lightpost lens and the 5.6/560 is not such a lens in tele range.

I would love such a lens with WR and built in 2x TC.

Am I the only one wondering if Pentax will offer SplitPrism focusing screens for the Fullframe?.. That's the only think (well, and the price..) that I'm really "worrying" about..

You are not the only one, it has been mentioned numerous times. Still seems quite unlikely though. I don't believe any of the other major companies supply a split screen for modern cameras though in general third party companies such as Focusingscreen.com do support them. I would assume FocusingScreen would be happy to support the Pentax FF if it sells well.
