Pentax hybrid FF camera. Could it be real?

I thought about lyrics of Wendy B
here
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/30289-speculation-what...ufacturer.html

And decided to start new thread.
I can suppose - maybe we will see 24 Mp SONY or Samsung sensor in 645D body with 645 bayonet- ?
all technologies are ready - menus like in k20D, good processor, functionality, weather-resist,
two types of memory - SD and CF.
PENTAX 645 DIGITAL()
The body for FF is ready.
And maybe removable sensor? And something which can help to use K lenses with AF? Or AF645 at KAF.

Maybe AF convertor for FA K or for AF645?

With such hybrid camera (it's hard to believe, of course) pentax can kill two birds with one stone
- start to sale AF645 lenses with profit and give the chanse to use FA lenses.

The prices for AF645 lenses are not very high. The quality are excellent.

But it's unbelievably... though it's crazy genius idea.

Pentax can't launch Digital MF camera - 645D now - no chanses to sale it with profit.
They already said about it.

A 35mm FF sensor in a 645 mount body makes no sense as it would limit potential users for the body. An FF Pentax body must have K-mount as that will increase the user base manyfold.
Anyway, if the rumors about a Pentax FF is true, and lets face it; some of those who claim so have quite a good track record, I'm sure Pentax will target their 645 users as well even if is K-mount.
It is interesting that the Pentax boss have stated that they don't have the resources to codevelop both the 645D and a FF K-mount DSLR simultaneously. If one is very optimistically inclined, the fact that they have frozen the 645D could mean that they are working on a FF K-mount camera instead...

The FF camera can use AF645 and FA lenses with AF. Do you understand? it could be simple and original technical solution. No need any resources.

Pentax has at least 14 AF lenses of 645 and only 9 lenses which can work at 35 mm.
it's chance to save 645 system and it's chance to give FF who really want it.

Pentax won't be able to sale 645D with profit.
No chances at all. 645D project is really frozen. But FF sensor in 645D could be real.
Such machine could be interesting.

It's good idea and has sense. No any limits.

Ogl,

This is my only contribution to this useless thread. All I have to say is this:

Do you realise that hypothetically speaking Pentax could put a FF sensor in a K20D body and thus use all the lenses in K mount and all the lenses from 645 system with an adaptor like that: Other Accessories[For 645NII] : Accessories : Film Cameras : PENTAX (second from the top)? There is no need to put a FF sensor in a MF body and make a useless, cumbersome monster.
See there is a reason why a digicam with a 1/2.5 sensor can be as large as a cigarette pack, an Oly with 4/3 larger, and APS-C even bigger, a FF larger still and a MF the biggest of them all. It's about registering optical points for different systems, the shear size of sensors, bigger batteries, more power in electronics, and so on.

And believe me what you claim was inspired by "lyrics of WB person" it's a bad idea and makes no sense at all! If you are still convinced read the above paragraph until you see some flows in what I wrote there.

Radu

P.S. I am very sorry that I couldn't write you a lyrical explanation why this idea really sucks.

It could be body of K20D. No problem. I don't say about 645NII body.
But I see that you understand NOTHING what I mean.
It's not my idea - it more Wendy B's ideas...
Time will answer...

The only possible advantage that I could see with a FF 35mm sensor in a 645 sized camera is they may be able to shoehorn an SR system in there.
Which I believe would be a first for any full framed camera.

It may be me but it also could be your attitude of telling "you understand NOTHING" and not explaining what so ever what you mean. Ok, nevermind!

Stu,

I think that a SR FF sensor will make all the FF lenses on K mount obsolete at once. Since the sensor moves in some degree then IMO the lens must be over FF in diameter (sort of DA lenses that are more 1,25 crop rather than the 1,5 needed).

I don't think it would be a first. Sony's FF is theoretically going to offer AS (IIRC from the Henry's photo show). Any way you slice it though, it looks like late summer is going to be fun. All the speculation that's starting up will make the official announcements all the more entertaining.

Ok, I'll Guess what!

Just because I love insane speculation, and I dig Ogl's "what if" posts...

Here is my piece of speculation:

sensor: FF Samsung 25-35 MP
body: aluminium or magnesium alloy
Autofocus: new and faster. new acronym too!
Frame rate: 5-6 f/s
Light meter: new. Chromasonic 5, with adjustable base level.
MP3 player: Plays "Eye of the Tiger" with Limited's mounted

But here is the part that would be very cool:

Lens mount and view finder are removable.

The camera body is sized and shaped like a traditional DSLR. The view finder is removable like the LX. The lens mount is removable like the view finder. This allows you to replace the these parts with a "645D" viewfinder and lens mount. Now you have a DSLR shaped body that has the functions of the mythical 645D.

Here is my speculation on the lenses and SR (to the math wizards out there, go ahead and "fix" the following numbers):

DA lens - sensor is cropped to a 12-13 MP (1.5 crop factor), full SR function
FA lens - Sensor is cropped to a 18-19 mp (1.25 crop factor), full SR function
FA Lens - Full Frame 25-35 mp (1:1 crop factor), no SR function
645D lens - full sensor use, 25-35 mp, (1.6 crop factor), full SR function

Base price of the camera with 35mm viewfinder and mount: $3,500
Upgrade kit for 645D function: $1,500

Produces a $5,000 DMF camera at 25-35 mp.
