New Ricoh camera-related patent - yes, it's a lens cap!

Ricoh Imaging filled a new lens cap patent, apparently for protecting the elders with feeble fingers: if you pinch the tabs in order to remove the lens cap, they stay in the pinched position until you'd press a release button (doubling as a manufacturer badge).
Ricoh ????????????????????????????So-net???

I wonder what they'll think next...

While it is good to see innovation of any sort from Ricoh, I have to agree with Bertwert that this could be very annoying.

Honestly, this is too little too late. Maybe if they had introduced this lens cap in 2012 . . .

My reaction is a bit different from most here - I suspect a wave of complaints here and piling up in Ricoh's inbox: "I think my lenscap is broken?? I can't get the dang thing off!! This never happened with my Canikon"

They'll love it on Dpreview. You asked for it, Ricoh!

Time to patent my combination lens cap / drinks coaster. Been sittin' on this bad boy for too long. Need to get it done, before Ricoh beats me to it!

EDIT: With all this R&D going on at Ricoh, I guess the K3II replacement will be a way off...

I'm in So long as this new lens cap comes with a D-FA* 70~210/2.8 attached, like all those body caps you accumulated in the 2000's buying cameras on eBay with a 'body cap' attached.
