33 AF points?? Hard to tell but they look well spread out...

I calculate 33 points too. K-3II has 27 points.

But what about LV?

Info about 50 AF points was wrong. ?

Yeah that may not include PDAF...but I am not getting my hopes up. 33 points well spaced is enough for me

More AF points = better predictive AF-C

This is a Pentax forum.

Complaints and whining seems to be the norm, not the exception.

First of all it is great seeing you post at pentaxforums!

Dpreview's forum is too bad for me to go there often.

It is not true, though, that "sensor quality" is always best at ISO 100. It depends on the sensor what its minimum ISO is, i.e., where it delivers maximum DR (dynamic range).

The ISO figures Ogl quoted have been measured by DxO Labs. They are not fake manufacturer EXIF figures or the result of "software ISO"; they actually indicate an increase in DR.

Having a (real) ISO setting lower than ISO 100 can be helpful to work around the speed sync limitation when using standard flash. An ISO setting of 50 would be equivalent to raising the shutter speed from 1/180s to 1/360s in terms of exposure. This can be useful at times when one cannot go faster than 1/180s (= the sync speed).

Well, even if ISO 100 is the lowest setting for the K-1 than while it cannot do "better" than your K-5 in terms of the ISO number, but in terms of what it means, "ISO 100" on an FF camera is equivalent to "ISO 44.4" on an APS-C camera. Here "equivalent" means that you can take the same pictures with the same level of noise / dynamic range.

So, actually, the K-1 will be better, even if ISO 100 is the lowest setting.

Maybe they implemented some form of 3D tracking with getting additional scene info from the light metering sensor. So, 33 AF may not tell you much about the AF tracking capability of this camera, until you get the full specifications and experience from other users. However, frame coverage may still be rather small for a full frame sensor (same as what the AF was for the 5DII ). Lets wait for the full spec to be available. If the AF is a sligthly improved version of the 27 points AF of the K-3, that's also fine is the Pentax ff is priced accordingly , otherwise, that's going to cool down a lot of sales, simply because K-3 AF coverage on a ff sensor makes it hard to use for sports, and also because mature ff products from competition are already way beyond 33 points AF coverage (that would mean Pentaxians have waited for many years to get 7 years old tech? does not make sense). So, before making any judgement of this K-1 camera, lets wait for the full specifications, I mean, if pixel shift is used, it can offset the value of the camera, even if the AF is limited.

33 is plenty of AF points. I'm not really sure how many shooters out there use all those AF points all the time, especially at this price/skill level.

Low light seems to be one of Pentax's primary aims from the start. Remember when other cameras only shot to ISO3200, even the Pentax entry-level (K-x) went to 12800

More AF points are helpful whether you're shooting motor racing, tennis, birds in flight, dancers in low light or your kid playing football in the park. The K3 has proved itself pretty good in this respect and miles better than any previous camera I've used - but it could still be better. If as Kenspro has alluded to Pentax are thinking of going for all the pro markets they will need their autofocus tracking to match Canon and Nikon.

A main area of weakness at Pentax historically has always been autofucus performance - it's the one area where I have to concede defeat to my EOS 5D mk3 owning friend (61 AF points I think) so I really really hope and pray Pentax have addressed this in their new design.

If there were 150 or 400 AF points, do you think they would all be individually identifiable in a tiny diagram on the back of the viewfinder? Not practical sometimes.

Point being, the 33 points displayed in the small diagram may not necessarily show all the AF points in the camera.
