oh wise man, you have learned the K-01 / MX-1 lesson.

What were the experimental features of those cameras?

K-01 is the guts of a K-30 / K-50 (new SR smaller system and new manufacturing technique) w/o the mirror assembly. MX-1 was the articulated LCD screen. K-5lls was no anti-aliasing filter. Etc. Sometimes they 'test' something in a one-off run of 125,000 units that they know they can sell in Japan but it looks crazy to us in the west.

In reality, K-30 is a K-01 with a mirror and OVF.

No. I two worlds, tilting sensor doesn't change optical math
Are you sure?

You can tilt either the lens or the sensor to play with the depth of field.

Yes you can but it not the same effect. Till lens compensates optical distortion. This is more lensbaby effects.

Does it matter? The camera can't tilt the sensor that way even if it wanted to.

@i83N @tryphon4 Fellows, I refer you to the article posted on the home page... way back in April and May of 2013.

How to Turn Any Lens into a Shift Lens - Tutorial Videos | PentaxForums.com

Sensor Shift In Action: Increasing Field of View - Tutorial Videos | PentaxForums.com

Sum it all up, the shift is not as significant as a PC lens.

PF member mikeSF posted a thread showing a *much* more dramatic effect of the sensor shift technique than demonstrated in the PF video. Definitely worthwhile reading.

Tilt and shift are different things.
I own two tilt adaptors (a Zoerk MFS to use enlarging lenses, a "Pentacon6 to K" to use Pentacon 6 lenses).

I own neither shift adapters nor shift lenses.
A tilted lens allows to apply the Scheimpflug-Carpentier principle (modify the depth of field) while a shifted lens allows to correct verticals. It is completly different.

Great technique I didn't know about.

Given the pixel shift resolution mode, is there a chance we will get a firmware update that stitches four sensor shifted images into one large one, to simulate a larger sensor? A medium format simulator on K-1? That would be awesome!

How much is max sensor shift in each direction?

Yes, I meant the 645z. And it seems I am mistaken (looking at the wrong button for one).

It appears the bottom controller button is for Outdoor View Mode - boosts or attenuates the brightness and contrast on the rear LCD screen -

Oh, interesting. I hadn't seen that page yet. I actually change my screen brightness fairly frequently and always hated menu diving for what is a pretty critical setting for chimping and any live view work. Small but very welcome change.

Side by side pics of K-1 and K-3 (or any other camera you want) are up at camerasize.com

Compare camera dimensions side by side

Sorry if this is a dupe post

This is the transition I'll be making. The front-on view seems to accentuate the size difference the most. Other angles don't look too bad. As small as one could expect! The weight increase is real, but it doesn't bother me. (In theory, sitting here at my desk... )

They also added the 15-30 and 28-105. I can't remember the last time they added a new Pentax lens to their database. Would like to see others...
