Yes, that lens was make to go along with the cheapo 6D.

In fact I just realize that 28-105 is minimum effort, since there are already some old Pentax designs. There is a also a plethora of legacy 28-105 lenses out there on ebay: Sigma 28-105, Pentax FA 28-105 , Kiron 28-105 etc , most of them selling for +-$100. Maybe Ricoh took one of this old design , updated with latest glass and coating, no much time spent on a new design indeed. And as for 24-70 f2.8, they rebadged the Tamron. So, if what I'm saying is correct, they bring new lenses with very little time and money spent, which, if the lenses deliver very good quality , is a good idea. However, given the latest improvements in lens design, I've been having an eye in the Sigma 24-105 f4 for a while already, because that lens is sharp all the way from 24 to 105mm wide open, which makes it able to deliver very high image quality and very versatile on FF.

Ridiculous.

"Pros" can (and will) buy 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2. 8
Of course, but many others would have appreciated the versatility offered by the longer range of a 24-105 F4.
Especially when travelling.

This lens will probably perform identically to the Canon 24-105L at 105mm @f/5.6 anyway. And the distortion from the Canon EF 24-105L @ 24mm means you lose a few mm at the wide end anyway.

Complaining, and saying you're disappointed and wont buy the new full frame because the lens doesn't match the "Canikon standard" are complaining for the sake of complaining. Seriously : one of the most anticipated camera bodies in the Pentax community, for which we have waited years for: and THIS is the straw that breaks your back.

If wide angle is your thing: the upcoming 15-30mm f/2.8 will be fine. Ideally Pentax might extend the FA Limited lenses to include a sub24mm lens and 90mm or over telephoto.

Maybe Sigma will be so nice as to make a Pentax Version of their 24-105 F4 now.

Pentax can't make 24-105 f4 for now because Pentax 24-70 has similar price with canon and nikon 24-105 lenses. In this case, Pentax can't sell 24-105 lenses.

Pentax 24-70mm costs around EUR 1300
Canon 24-105 costs around EUR 700

Nearly half the price.

Puzzling to see comment about variable aperture kit lenses somehow making a camera toxic for pros.

Nikon offers the AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR as a FF kit lens, Sony bundled the decidedly ordinary Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS E-Mount lens with some of it's FF's, Canon has the aforementioned EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6.

And yet many pros still somehow manage to find Nikon, Canon and Sony full-frames attractive, and buy them.

I'll take the vegas odds on that happening.

Nope. only $300 different and Pentax ALWAYS price their own lenses much expansive.

Of course the Pentax lens is more expensive! you do now the difference between a 24-70 f/2.8 and a 24-105mm f/4 lens do you?

Aaaaaannnnnddd . . . Here we go.

I want to see a scanned invoice from every poster who bought CaNikon (or kept comparable CaNikon) instead of the K-1 because (name your complaint). This will be my response:

INVOICE. If there's NO invoice it didn't happen.

It's always good to have an affordable FF kit lens. Every other manufacturer has one, too.

If Pentax hadn't launched the 24-70mm F2.8 already it would have been a different story, but since it's around there isn't really a pressing need for a "prosumer" 24-120mm, etc. I'm sure one will be added eventually, similarly to how the DA 16-85mm followed the DA 18-135mm.

Also, hopefully Sigmas 24-105mm F4 becomes available for Pentax!

Well, the Canon 24-105 is a bit soft wide open at some focal length, so , it's not so sure that a HD 28-105 would not deliver the same results. Nikon 24-120 f4 is said to be worse than the Canon 24-105. There's one exception; the sigma 24-105 Art, a bit heavy bit optically better than Canon 24-105 or Nikon 23-120. People don't yet realize that they'll have some surprises when they'll mount lenses on FF because they are used to APSC that uses the center of lenses where MTF is highest. So, you have to wait to see how usable is the new HD 28-105 wide open.

They should! I used that lens and it's fantastic. Btw, don't they have a service to change the lens mount?

The retailers will put a kit lens and compete on price. If Pentax doesn't provide one they will find one.

You can buy body only, or I'm certain there will be kits with the three zooms, as well as the FA primes.

Buy one of them and stop moaning.

For some folks the bundled price of this vs 24-70mm might be the difference in buying the FF at launch or not.
