Pentax has a track record for producing above-average kit lenses, and this one looks downright superb if the sample photos are any indication. The studio shot with pixel shift is downright incredible with tons of detail in the fabric and flowers.

Well, I don't know if it is ample, but for existing, certainly is there for a reason and many will find it usable. No doubt about that. My main thoughts is comparing the price (1700€ !!!) and my use. For landscape photography I'm always using the wide end of my lenses. And many times I do panoramas!

Then the Samyang/Rokinon 14mm F/2.8 will do.

Yes, you're on my mind. The price is right and seams to perform very well from 2.8. I saw even a marriage photographer using it with excellent results.
If there is one bad thing is, mustache like, distortion; and this is not good for architecture... Samyang though, hearing the complaints, released a lens correction profile to fix this (for canon-nikon).
But I saw even professional videos for architecture advertisement, that this lens performs pretty well.
The purchase of a ff wide angle lens (prime or zoom) will be a very difficult decision... considering price - performance.

I would have assumed it to be one of the easiest lens decisions, considering the choice is between only three lenses, at least in regard to ultra wide angle lenses? Below 24 mm all there currently is is the Sigma 15mm F2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye, the Pentax DFA 15-30 f/2.8 WR and the Samyang 14 f/2.8. That's it.

Several Super Takumar 20mm lenses are being offered on eBay right now, for those who want to go super retro {and no green button needed for them, either}.

Actually, there is an entire thread of 7 pages devoted to discussing the various options

The Sigma 12-24mm DG is an obvious current AF FF 'cheaper' alternative to the 15-30.
