lens scheme of 28-105:

and that of the FA 28-105 F4-5.6 IF late nineties tamron rebadge:

Front group is almost identical apart from the last element. Middle and Back groups are clearly different.

I was thinking just the opposite, RE- the aperture blades. Why do we need creamy bokeh on such an ultrawide lens? I'd much much rather have the old 5-blade classic sunstar look. I guess I can continue trying to score an old Pentax 20mm f/4 on Ebay though if I really want those sunstars. This 15-30 2.8 lens is an impressive feat of optical engineering, if it is anything like the Tamron. :-)

There is nothing wrong with a re-badged Tamron that is built to Ricoh specifications with HD coatings
Agreed. In fact, it helps give confidence that the lenses will be good. The Tamron 15-30 gets great reviews.

so the K1 and 15-30mm is roughly 2kg together... holy sh**
Yep, taking pictures while running will be more difficult than with the other options you mentioned.

2kg = must add a suitable tripod to the shopping list. (my other gear is m43, and the little tripod I have for it would look very sad if I asked it to hold a K1.)

The front group is also almost identical to the DA 18-135, but not the middle or rear groups.

Focus ring / distance scale is reversed from other lenses?

Looks like the 15-30's focusing ring/helical has retained the design of another brand's direction? That would be an annoying ergonomic oversight.

It's a rebadge. They are not going to invert the entire focussing mechanism. Then they might as well design a new lens.

Inverting a focusing mechanism wouldn't require much effort or an entirely new lens design:

1. Machine the helicoid in reverse.
2. Stamp the focusing guide in reverse.
3. Profit?
