Looks nice but USB 2.0??? How come?
Maybe allows for easier tethering?

But honestly, who actually uses the USB cord to transfer photos to their computer? There are plenty of card readers that work great and are USB 3.0 and they aren't particularly expensive.

Because of the risk of forgetting the card in the reader...

That is why several spare cards are a good idea.

Much stronger yen recently could mess up all the price predictions though... and hurt Japanese camera sales and/or profits in general, outside Japan.

Thats on the locking your keys in the car with the camera level. Better put in a feature to unlock all cars!

Wow, you are actually don't know why pro photographers use tethering for their work. Have you ever try tether shooting before? Using card reader is not a good idea for studio shooting. You can directly send pics to the computer that you can edit and check pics right away with much bigger display. Camera display is suck compare to computer display. Medium format photographers use tether shooting for their work.

Without it, photographers have to waste some times such as transferring pics with card reader.

Back on topic please

If the $1799 price is correct then they're doing exactly what they did with the 645D: crush the medium format market. Only this time it's the FF market. Canon and Nikon have top model FF's to protect so they cannot offer cheap FF models without eating into top model sales. Pentax does not have that problem at all so they can go as low as they want

USD 1799 would mean EUR 1617 at the current exchange rate. I wonder what the price in the EU (and more specifically Belgium) would be... I was hoping over EUR 2000 at least, just so I would have an excuse not to buy the K-1. Having bought the DFA150-450 last year plus a digital piano (=my mid-life crisis) my funds are at a low right now. Less than EUR 1650 might still be doable though... damn...

I have a dozen or so primes that are FF ready, ranging from 24mm to 300mm (incl all three FA ltds), plus the 150-450. However, none of these (except the 150-450) are WR, and all of my WR zooms are APS-C (DA20-40, DA*16-50, DA*50-135)... so I should keep my K-3II for travel I guess. Unless the crop mode is workable on the K-1. I fear an unworkable VF in crop mode however...

Ah... decisions, decisions...

And it will make even more waves, because the medium-format market is (generally speaking) not a place most enthusiast photographers will go unless they're very well cashed up. I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of people who buy MF DSLRs are professionals who know they need one and who can recoup the cost through their work.

But sub $2K US for a full-frame camera with a whole bunch of lenses ready to go on it (even if many of them are crop only and one is a variable-aperture kit) is going to look very good for the gear-head enthusiast. And sure, some of the old FA lenses aren't exactly in the Leica stratum of build quality (I'm looking at YOU, 28-90/3.5-5.6!), but they are all full-frame and they will all work smoothly with the new beast. There's something to be said for that.

Unlike the medium-format market, this is something people who walk into a camera store to browse are going to look at buying. And if Ricoh have undercut everyone else... I think they're going to score a big coup out of this.

Also, anyone out there who's been sitting on well-preserved New-In-Box FA stock is about to make a killing.
