I paid next to nothing for my usb 3 card reader, why waste battery on copying files.
You are right, come to think of it; I have owned a k-7, k-5, k-5IIs and k-3 and not used the usb port on the camera once to copy files to a computer.... Am I missing something?

Back to the pricing of this k-1. Wow, I am so glad that I don't jump to the dark side. At that price with so much features included and most of all I can mount many of k-mount lenses, I don't even even need to look at D810 and 5Dxx.

That's now how tethering works.

Ok, I must admit, I don't do tethering work at all, I am an event photographer and I need to move around.

USD 1799 would mean EUR 1617 at the current exchange rate. I wonder what the price in the EU (and more specifically Belgium) would be... I was hoping over EUR 2000 at least, just so I would have an excuse not to buy the K-1. Having bought the DFA150-450 last year plus a digital piano (=my mid-life crisis) my funds are at a low right now. Less than EUR 1650 might still be doable though... damn...

You forgot the VAT in your calculation. European price will be €1,999 VAT included.

Wow, you are actually don't know why pro photographers use tethering for their work. Have you ever try tether shooting before? Using card reader is not a good idea for studio shooting. You can directly send pics to the computer that you can edit and check pics right away with much bigger display. Camera display is suck compare to computer display. Medium format photographers use tether shooting for their work.

Without it, photographers have to waste some times such as transferring pics with card reader.
Nice.

My guess in looking at things is that Pentax went to their engineers with a specific price point and said "Guys, we want you put everything you can into this camera with the D810 sensor and keep the price at or below 1800." When you build toward a specific price point, you end up having limitations -- frame rate, video, even USB level. I suppose their calculation is that they will sell more cameras by keeping the price at 1800 than if they added more hardware, but allowed the price to go above 2000.

I would say that this is a good first start. It certainly is all the camera that I need, but certainly it leaves room for a higher specified camera above it, if it sells well.

At a price like that, we can not only buy the camera, we don't have to lie to our spouses about it!

+USB 3 type C it could better charging capabilities and could potentially replace the HDMI out. I don't know why more camera companies are not jumping on this.

Im talking about computer and USB 3.0 C type is not universal port yet. Also, Even it has c type, it doesn't support that fast speed due to CPU.
