I had low expectations for this camera in terms of video, and even so I was massively disappointed. The specs are barely acceptable for a 2013 camera.
It appears to be D810 hardware from the sensor to the image processor, so I wouldn't expect modern video features. My biggest surprise is that it took Ricoh so long to develop a camera with such old technology. I guess the time was spent on the SR system and OVF. As you say everything else is 2013 technology. It's a great buy.

So Pentax isn't doomed? The threads complaining about the lack of a FF camera can finally die?

They will continue wanting a "real" FF camera

My only disappointment is that it doesn't offer raw compression. I wish at least the DNG files could have a compressed option, for when I need to rattle off a few 999 image timelapses that might not even turn out LOL.
DNG files are losslessly compressed. Perhaps adding a 12-bit option might help...

A D800E with sensor shift, 4 years late but at half the price. Not bad

You're right. It looks already like Pentax is doomed because they made a camera for shooting stills not video.

like the compressed NEF Nikon files that I've been using for years now, can still retain almost all of the image quality of a raw file, amazingly, at almost the filesize of a JPG file
It's probably because it uses JPEG compression. JPEG is actually an organization that publishes a variety of compression algorithms, but discrete cosine transformation is the technique that produces such high compression ratios at the expense of losing information recorded by the camera. Fractal compression is the only other compression technique that can match DCT for compression ratios and it is also a lossy compression method. The big problem with lossy compression is when you compress a decompressed image (such as saving edits or resizing the image), you almost always end up with ugly artifacts. If you don't need to do any post-processing out of camera, just save your images as JPEG.

RAW files are commonly compressed with a lossless technique such as the LZW algorithm, which can only get close to 2:1 compression. But RAW files compressed with lossless compression can be decompressed and compressed endlessly without any loss of information and without producing unintentional artifacts.

I don't know much about video, but that the button you use looks like movie camera form the 1930's. So pentax caters for older video users. Haha.

But what is this about 4k interval video how does this work?

In addition to a host of distinctive visual effects available for movie recording,* the K-1 also provides the interval movie mode, which captures a series of 4K-resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) movie clips at a fixed interval.
