1000 euros! If they sell it at that price, I hope they have a bottle of Champagne at hand. I paid ~ 350 euros for mine, and I thought that was a fair but not bargain price.

Why would someone buy a 20mm lens with AF? To focus the center of the photo all the times?

Yeah, that seems like someone trying to gouge a desperate K-1 buyer. I'm keen to have a nice wide prime for the K-1 but for that price I can wait for Pentax to release something new next year (early next year, right Ricoh??).

Maybe because it's a remarkably good lens, it's for sale and at a reasonable price?

Jun Hirakawa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mr. Jun Hirakawa is a Japanese lens designer best known for creating the Pentax FA 43mm Limited and FA 77mm Limited lenses during his time at Pentax. He is additionally credited with the designs for the FA* 24mm f/2, FA* 85mm f/1.4, FA* 80-200mm f/2.8, FA 28mm f/2.8, FA 35mm f/2, DA 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 Fisheye (co-developed with Takayuki Ito), DA 14mm f/2.8, DA 40mm f/2.8 Limited and DA* 55mm f/1.4 lenses.[1]
Hirakawa said at the time that he regretted his "early retirement" from Pentax in 2010, around the time that Hoya acquired the company, and was subsequently hired by Tamron.[2]
Half of. All full frame.
K1 is the reason.

My question is more information gathering (thirst of learning) than critic. Here is a re-word: How do you control the focus in a very wide angle, if you are using AF? It will tend to focus the center of the photo, or if you have focus point, then those focus points. What if ou just want to focus the foreground which could be framing the subject? If you can help me, go ahead and answer. Thanks, Pepe

Well I'd say except if you go for near macro/proxy, you have lof of deph of field with a WA. At 18mm on APSC, at f/2.8 and focussing 2meters away the deph of field is already more than 1meter.

In this kind of conditions you can focus with the center AF point and reframe. If you want to have all in focus, you can use hyperfocal distance...

17mm f/4, 4 meter is the hyperfocal distance with everything in focus from 2 meter to infinite. close down to f/8, hyperfocal is 2meters, and then if you focus on hyperfocal everything from 1meter to infinite will be in focus.

To use hyperfocal distance, just use the center AF point to focus to something that is at this distance approximately and you are done as long as you foreground is not outside the area of focus.

Of course, you can set the camera to manual focus and focus manually even with an FA lens. Or, as Nicolas writes, use center focus and recompose.

Just saw that... But if you add a SD card, it is 1999€... That's likely the best price ever for a K-1 but the worst price you could find for an SD card ! I guess one can't get the best price on everything
