It does have a new 'flat' mode. Could be advantageous when it comes to preserving dynamic range and IQ for video..
Pls could you post the link ?

It's finally not a rumor, or April fools' item, anymore! Thanks Ricoh!

I think it looks awfully good. Sure, there is room above the K-1 for another even higher end camera, but looking back, this isn't too much more than the price that the K5 launched for. Let's say it is 90 percent of a D810, but including SR and pixel shift and astro tracer for a thousand dollars less. That's a price where even APS-C dedicated users will need to think twice about purchasing one, especially as used ones hit the market down the road or, the price comes down just a little bit more from launch price.

AOL! It just needs a reborn FA20 to control our minds, then the K-5 + DA15 can get some rest

Works for me. I made videos with Papa Roach, Black Stone Cherry, Slipknot, Judas Priest + + + With K-3 and K-3II..Think i still will deliver good video with the K-1 I think most of the complainers, just want Pentax to have have the same specs like CaNikon have, and most of them dont even use half of them. I KNOW K-1 will be a insane good camera.

And about the sensor. Yes, in theory its the same as used in the D810, but it has been rebuild and tweaked in a new and different way..So in my mind its a step better one.

Im off to play with a K-1 TODAY, so I'm in a good mood
The sensor is NOT the same as in the D810, not in theory and not in reality. The D810 sensor has a true base iso of 47 (measured per DXO), and a user base iso of 64.
The Pentax has a user base iso of 100, so its true base iso will be around 80-90.
The Pentax may outperform the D810 at higher iso settings, but certainly not at iso 64, which it simply does not have.

Mmmmm

Shipping April - Would that be April first

Nice to note they did the same stupidity with the name as they did with the istD* A name that will never illicit decent search engine hits.

Try it - google K1 and see how many hits you get for the 'failed' k-01

One of these days Pentax will wake up-to 21st century PR techniques in the meantime we get a good camera that is unsearchable and has a perceptual 'fools day ' Birth. !!

Surely it'll be a hit outside those in the know - not.

I think that the K-1 will actually out perform the D810 in situations where you can use iso 64, because you can use the pixel shift feature to add dynamic range/resolution/color depth to the image. By fixing this feature to make it more usable, it also allows for better low iso images (I am assuming that the main reason for iso 64 is to increase dynamic range for landscape type images).

I will play with the K-1 all weekend, so then it will be easier for me to answer questions better. Just keep that in mind
Please let us know if manual focusing is easier too. Thank you

Pulling or pushing a sensor from it base ISO always gives lower DR (besides the K5 which strangely had a non linear iso 80 mode).

So if as suspected the K1 is native around iso 100 then offering a lower iso would only give reduced DR which I think we agree would be pointless.

If you need lower sensitivity for some shots then better to use a ND filter @iso100 and achieve Max DR the camera is capable of.

It is likely given the top ISO of this sensor that it will have the same or greater DR@iso100 than the D810@iso64

I had not planned on getting the full frame as I don't really need it...Ive been fine with my k20s and more recently, k3s.. But this camera is definetly attractive on alot of fronts and I have no doubt I will be getting one in the near future. Generally I avoid new tech until the kinks are worked out so I will wait and see on this one. Hats off though for Ricoh coming thru on the FF.

In the meantime...I'll be watching the for sale board here for another used K3. may not be full frame but its still one heck of a good camera in its own right..

Looking forward to everyones K-1 pics and reviews.I'm sure they will push me over the edge.

ISO80 was a true base ISO for the IMX071.
