I wonder how an M50 1.7 would fare on the K-1.

Im looking forward to adding that 15-30mm to my bag. Anyone know the weight of that new lens?

Also does anyone know how the pixelshift of the k1 compares to the 645d/645z?

Won't improve the autofocus one bit.

That's exactly the direction I went in December...

Anyone here have information on when we'll see more details of the features in actual use?

I would like to see:

1) Many more DA lenses in FF mode at different apertures
2) Motion Correction with the PIxel Shift mode in use at various locations (lake, trees in wind, people and cars moving in city scene, etc)
3) The functionality of the AF tracking and speed of locking on (esp in dark or low contrast settings -- testing the limits)
4) Shake reduction in the K-1 vs the Shake Reduction in the K-3II (any noticeable difference?)
5) More high ISO tests
6) DR values at ISO 100

Some of this will take time to assemble.. so I'm more curious when we might see this type of data?

You probably won't see anything until the production models actually ship.

The evaluation models in people's hands now:
  • are using pre-production firmware
  • are on "loan" for a very limited time
  • there appear to be restrictions on what images/videos produced can be shared/posted publicly.

I downloaded the raw DNG for this image of the car front end

Pentax K-1 Pre-Production Sample Gallery: Digital Photography Review

and played around with it. Here is a 2:1 crop (200%) of the in-focus headlight. Nice to see the 70 limited perform. Note the shallow plane of focus. Very impressive in all aspects, even more so at full resolution.

Dear fellow Pentaxians!
Does anyone know if the O-ME53 Magnifier Eyecup fits the K-1? There is no information on ricoh-imaging.

with the K-1) the image is clearly unacceptable until at least 14mm
If you look at the rings you can see what is caused by the hood. Dremlin away the hood will help, but not entirely cure the 10-17mm in the wide end.

Personally I plan to use the APS-C lenses Samyang 8mm f/3,5 CSII (the one with removable hood) and Sigma 18-35mm f/1,8 in FF mode, and crop in PP when necessary. Although in most cases I cant use the full frame, I will have more freedom of choice compared to APS-C mode. Freedom to choose other aspect ratios then 3:2 and other crop factors. I think I will get about 20-25 Mp out of most cases, as oppose to 15 Mp in APS-C mode.

With some APS-C lenses without hood, I will be able to take APS-C images in portrait orientation, while holding the camera in a more comfortable landscape orientation.

Well...sad because my workflow, and the workflow of the team I built, is based in Pentax K3 cameras with their video capabilities - as well as their photography capabilities.

We use a total of 7 Pentax K3 cameras to perform various cinema duties in and around work. With those 7 cameras there are at least 21 lenses.

Our Pentax cameras have been seen in many high profile projects.

What I will now do, is abandon Pentax as a tool, as part of my workflow here at work. At the very least, 1080p/60 and clean HDMI out, were the things that could have allowed me to keep Pentax in the tools set we have.

Sad, because Sony has so many better options, I am compelled to go that route especially since we have invested in a Sony FS7 system and the associated e-mount route.

Sad because I was one of the few people who were using Pentax K3 cameras in a professional workflow.

Sad because having those two little features could have meant many more Pentax products.

Sad.
Do what you have to do....... but keep something Pentax for yourself and make sure you drop in from time to time.... for our sake!

Don't tell that to the Fuji X and Nikon Df design team
