Every time i recieve a notification update from this thread i think i will finally read "my k1 have been shipped" or see the picture of Kenspo with two K1 .... Unsuscribing the thread for sanity reason... The wait was more bearable when i know still was left months to realease rather than just a few weeks

Not sure if this has been asked but why not include a crop mode at APS-H size. Most of the DA LTDs should work optimally at APS-H.

Pentax could have APS-C crop mode, APS-H crop mode, APS-P crop mode, 4/3 crop mode, 16:9 crop mode, square crop mode and so on. But I think it would be messy menu and viewfinder in use and in documentation to have a large matrix of what lenses goes how well with the various crops. I think its as easy as it should be right now. All other crops are available in post processing.

Some early firmware versions reportedly had a square crop. And if I remember right the Nikon D800 has something like a 1.2 crop that would be useful. But in the end simple works. If you want to have an APS-H crop (or any other crop) shoot FF and crop in post. Additional crop modes would have been a cool feature but Pentax decided not to implement them for whatever reason.

The reason for adding the crop mode is for framing purposes within the viewfinder. And I am not asking for 5 crop modes just those that correspond to specific Pentax lenses.

And a good idea it is.

And maybe this is silly but when you mount an APS-C lens will not be able to see the image circle and frame accordingly? Or maybe I don't understand how this works..........

Simplicity. APS-C crop is obvious, to work with APS-C lenses. But the rest is simply NOT NECESSARY, and would introduce further complications, not to mention a cluttered viewfinder from all the overlays that would be necessary. They had to work hard enough already on this camera; why make their jobs any more difficult?

I dunno if I am dying for an APSH crop, but I wish they had left the square. I shot a lot of weddings in square format. It was great not giving a second thought to portrait or landscape orientation. Even when I switched to my Pentax 645, I still shot square in my mind and didn't flip the camera around. No time, or you might miss an important shot. They even make square albums ... Square would give the most pixel bang for the buck out of APSC Lenses... Ahah! I see the problem! Ricoh knew a square crop if available might cut into FF lens sales! They must have studied the market again, dang it!

or... they didn't want to clutter up the viewfinder with more crop frames... and... some APSC lenses might have a rectangular mask on the rear element.

No pentax lens was designed for APS-H, there only APSC and FF that are compatible with K-mount.

Thats right. You will see the image circle if it is within the full frame.

-1 for square crop. I don’t need or want that option when shooting. All choices I can postpone to post processing makes me focus better on the choices that can't be moved to post process, like choosing the depth of field, consider the lighting situation, waiting for the right moment and so on. If I had to do 100 choices for every shot, I'm sure I would forget to consider at least 90 of them.
