Congratulations to everyone who got their new K-1 (x2 for Kenspo) plus lenses, I think there is no better way to celebrate the arrival of this long awaited camera but produce outstanding images.

Cheers!

And to Kenspo,
May your work continue to inspire us.

I agree. We should all just get the camera and get out and take great images. Pentax have made a great tool, it is up to us Pentaxians to demonstrate what we can do with it. I think Pentax want their cameras to appeal to the serious ameture photographer. The special K sites has not been populated with professional photographs because they want mass participants and not professional images that might intimidate beginners like me.

I like pentax cameras and lenses ( especialy Limited's). However I can hardly say that pentax have any marketing activity in Europe at all.

Ken you did more noice then all marketing department.

With you or without ricoh must pay more attention to marketing. It is not serious to use pictures taken from them. From them we expect good cameras and lenses not to capture nice picks.

And waiting for my K1. It is so hard in the end pfuuuu....

I suspect to some extent it an economic issue - they're put in a lot of R&D costs and they're selling it at an aggressive price - ie lower than Canikon profit margins all round - they probably made as many cameras as they expected to sell on the first round -if they spend money selling stuff they haven;t got stock of, it might backfire -not that I know , but I suspect the advertising budget will come out of profits, once they are in profit, perhaps?

That is a mantra. People should pay attention to what Ricoh is actually doing. A big media campaign is usesless. Too expensive. There are easier ways to reach your customers. Ricoh is organising events everywhere at retailers to promote the K-1. They are marketing directly to real customers. Supporting retail channels en reaching people.

The question is why Ricoh shoud do this or that regarding marketing?

We seems to all agree here the K1 is a great product and many are already buying it.

From what I understand whatever we hope or say, we don't work for Ricoh and most of use have no clue on how marketing work in general, the cost, possible return on investment... Even more on the specific market of cameras. Yet everybody here want to comment like an expert why anything that Ricoh does is a dumb decision and how themselve if asked would have acted differently and that would have been much better.

I'd say once you get the job at Ricoh or Canon or whatever else company, make the decision, discover maybe there reason for them not acting like we would want naively and finally show that what you did actually improved the company situation much more than a different strategy.

Ricoh has improved marketing. They are advertising in Professional Photographer Magazine, Pop Photo, Photographer's Forum and they had a booth on WPPI this year for the first time in years. If the K-1 is a good product and sells well, they will probably increase their exposure. Bloggers and Youtube are probably their best bang for the buck. Fuji did a great job marketing through bloggers and Youtube reviewers and that channel is pretty inexpensive.

It's great to hear some of you are excited as I am about the release of the K-1, If someone could post their results from using some of the legacy screwmount primes and provide feedback on those results it would appreciated!

Just so people dont get me wrong; Im still signed as an ambassador. Just not directly with Ricoh anymore, but with the company Ricoh has outsourced Pentax to in this area (Nordic and Baltic countries). I will still try to make the name grow amongst non-pentaxians and the pro-marked. I will make noise, do lectures. I dont care what name is on the contract..I still get everything i need and i will still be doing the same type of job. I won't notice much difference And I'm still excited to see the brand grow in the future.

I haven't done anything wrong, there is no bad blood between any parts and there is smiles everywhere IF they decide on a later stage to build a program for ambassadors at a later stage, I'm still one of the first ones to step in there...

Even though I'm a hired gun, i still like Pentax, and wouldn't change just for all the gear i get. I still have a job to deliver. Im just happy to be a part of what i consider a family, named Pentax

I have said it so many times, but i'll say it again; The future is bright So keep shooting and be happy!

All the best to Kenspo, and thanks for sharing information.
Here are two pictures I shot this evening at a danceperformance. The light wan't easy, and first hour With the camera. So this is just snapshots.

Nice pictures, good job there !
Did you take these pictures with AF or MF (when light is really bad I usually go MF) ? how are the low light focusing capabilities of the K1 ? Would you use it reliably without lamp assistance for concerts for example ?

There is now a Moderated 'Index of Manual Lenses on Pentax K-1 Sample Photo Threads' thread in the Lens Sample Photo Archive sub-Forum.

Forum Members can start a thread for any manual lens*, to which we we can collectively post images for viewing and comments. The Moderator will Index the Threads and keep everything (hopefully) organized and accessible.

* the image search engine can find images from an automatic lens, with a discrete lens name in the EXIF so no Index thread is necessary.

Thank's for a nice comment!

I got the camera at 17.30 friday, drove to the dancetheater, mounted it in the car and took the first photos at 19.00. I used TAV with AF.C, using all focuspoints and assistent light. I will test more later. Mostly iI shoot with senterfocus and AF.S. I focus on what I want to be sharp, and then keep the trigger half way down, and then compose the picture. But here it was to much motion.
