Oops - thank you, I see. Quite trivial at second glance. The fact is quite disappointing for me. I had thought to get out 24 mp and continue on my current level with my actual lens lineup for a start when upgrading.
And that is way some wanted the 42Mp sensor, well there where other reasons too of course.

The UK retailer WEX Photographic has a production model video accessable through its web site, its not very detailed but gives you a look at the camera, and two UK dealers (WEX AND SRS) are offering a bundel price for the camera and grip of 1698.00 uk£ thats just phenominal for the spec, Ricoh are going for market share in a big way.

That's unimportant in real life.
I shoot 36mp since 4 years and it is a huge step up from APSC, whatever their resolution. And good enough to crop to APSC anyway.

In fact, I stopped to care about #pixels at all.

The next significant step will be 100mp.

Anything in between, like an upgrade of 36mp to 42mp, is a neglegible upgrade (8% in this case, invisible to the naked eye).

Ok, I still care though.
Had the K-1 been equipped with a 24Mp sensor I would not consider buying it. Now I most probably will. (I will await test results though.)
I have a K5 now and my tele lenses will still have the same reach as they did before when cropping heavily.

I wished the K-1 would have implemented what is called "digital lossless zoom" for video. The vast 36 mp sensor allows a lossless crop that leads to a 1.9x lossless zoom at 4K video and a 3.8x lossless zoom for HD. In normal video function the native 36 mp data is downsampled to 4K- or HD-format under loss of data. Lossless digital zoom means that the correspondent frame (4K or HD) is cropped out in the center of the sensor without any resampling like it is done for the APS-C crop. This conserves the native pixels and results in a lossless magnification by factor 1.9 or 3.8 in comparison to the "normal" downsampled video frame.

For example the Olympus OM-D has this function implemented since Long and I tried it on the moon. I then stitched a panorama from 8 single images derived from the film sequences. I used the 2x digital lossless zoom on an OM-D E-M5 with an adapted SMC-Pentax-A 400/5.6 and 1.4x + 2x TC:

Besides some exotic astrophoto use the function should be great for animal or sports filmers. Perhaps it could be implemented via appropiate firmware update later.

This is NOT a hands-on video review- but is a very positive initial release review by Spyros Heniadis:

Which lenses do you have that won't work with the K-1?

The only real FF lenses I have myself are a few really old ones (e.g. M 50/1.7), but when I'm eventually able to afford the new camera, I expect to use both the DA35 Ltd and the DA70 Ltd as if they were FF lenses. The DA15 won't be of much use, maybe I should start looking for FA20 on ebay already Besides, the crop mode won't be a step back in IQ from my K-5 anyway.

I think DA35 ltd doesn't cover FF at all focussing distances.

A way to see it but it is subjective. Sure that 42 vs 36 isn't that much but 36vs24 the same as 54vs36. Next step 81 and then 120MP.

For myself, I tend to think 24MP and no low pass filter is enough while I was finding 16MP with low pass filter limiting. And do I do find that now the limiting factor to me are lenses. What I would really want is DA15 and DA21 to have no field curvature and be sharp on border in all circonstances.

I could buy an FF to get that, with 1500$ in lenses to match (24 + 35) but they would be huge. Apparently Samyang 16mm good on APSC but in no case would I keep the flare resistance and contrast in difficult conditions of the DA15. The real win here is Fuji prime on APSC mirorless but I'am not ready for spending $1000+ on that and have 2 systems. Because if UWA are better on Fuji, Pentax better for tele like the FA77...

All in all, this is subjective.

Held the beast today in SRS Microsystems. They had three pre-prod (SW) to play with together with 24-70, 15-30 (the only one in the UK) and 28-105. Pre-ordered mine, apparently the first shipment to the UK will be round 20th April and total of 200units. SRS alone have over 30 preorders already. Get in the shop today to have a play!
All lenses are gorgeous. What surprised me was the AF speed of the kit 28-105. That thing is fast! Also, weight of the K-1 battery pack combo doesn't appear much greater than my K-5IIs battery pack combo. The flip screen is unobtrusive if you don't use it. Viewfinder grid overlay is quite useful. VF is niiiiceeee. As a photojournalism tool for high iso work it is a love at first sight
Something else... I can confirm that screw drive operation is clearly quieter than on K-5IIs. Tried with FA* 24/2 and FA 28/2.8

thanks for that - good to hear first-hand non journalist hands-on - wish I lived a bit closer - probably just as well I don't, though, or my pre-order would be placed already, and I can't afford it
