He seems to like it, even though he did not have time to learn how to get the best out of it. Its a good sign.

Pretty good review, don't know about his photos none of them were that sharp. User error i think.

My apology Mr Rose.

Edit, he does explain some of the problem posting these photo at 640 pix in the comments section below review. So even these journo's have problems with posting in forums.

I agree. Having 100% (or close) cloudy conditions does not help. Also None of the pictures are sharp. I just sold me d800e recently and one of the problems i had with it was that it requires a tripod; even nikon on their page said says that to take a sharp photo use a tripod.

I am wondering and concerned if the issue is with hand-held shots; on a 36 mega-pixel camera any kind of shake is very visible.

Most if not all of the reviewers so far have had a camera with development firmware, and they have admitted as much. I find this review very positive in tone - he does pick up on a few of what might be considered the camera's weaknesses, but he mentions them as facts and then moves on. Nothing is a deal breaker, and all the flaws seem well worth putting up with for the performance at the price. I think we're on a winner here - if not a Canikon Crusher, it's coming across in the majority of reviews I've read as a very competent DSLR for any prospective user whose main interest is stills (which, let's face it, is quite a lot of them).

It looks like he covered a lot of critical features of K1 given the limited time but for High ISO performance. It would have been nice had a taken couple of shots at 12800 ISO.

A good K-1 write-up. And to his credit, he was using a nice sharp lens like the M 50 f1.7.

I also agree with his opening remarks - some cameras just connect with you, and so it's always a pleasure to shoot with them. Others don't, even if technically they may have more features and be 'better'. Same with lenses. Good to hear that the K-1 is one of those cameras that 'clicked' with the author, and was fun to shoot. Hopefully it will work that way with lots of people.

I'm not completely clear on your abbrevations.
I understand 50 f1.7 as a 50mm f/1.7 lens.
Does "M" mean a lens labeled "Pentax-M" on the front?
So this would be an M 50 f2

Correct.

If the 'M' wasn't there, you could call it a K 50.

I don't know what bothers me more, that all the shots were unsharp, or that the author didn't seem to notice.

Could say shake reduction would eliminate a lot of movement, you would hope.

Yep. The K-mount Pentax lenses started with the 'K' series, then along came the compact 'M' series, then came the 'A' series with auto-aperture, then the F series with autofocus, then with digital came the DA series, etc.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentax_lenses

The M 50 f1.7 was produced by the millions back in the day, and it is a nice sharp little lens that remains well regarded. Mine came with a Pentax MX film camera attached.

Got to agree with you, the opening photos of the K1 were not even sharp, so it has to make you wonder what was going on. The only sharp photo is the motorbike in the foreground.

I haven't used that M 50 f2 lens on my K-30 yet; it was kitted on the ME SE that I bought in 1979.
I have used the A 50 f1.7 that was kitted on the Super Program that I bought in 1984 and was surprised to discover that it may be the sharpest lens I own {I don't think Kodachrome 25 showed its true resolving power}
.

At this time of day, they're probably more awake than we are
(but thank you both of you for such quick responses to what probably seemed like a trivial question to you ... but I was in Canonville for 20 years and didn't keep track of Pentax nomenclature)
