Stunning indeed. .. but my 50-135 will stay. There is no lens like this out there in the market by any manufacture that performs like a 70-200 but weighs like an 18-55.
This D-FA*70-200 is the only * optics in their FF stable and is pretty much guaranteed to perform like their other * optics.
But there is nothing like 50-135 out there given its weight, WR and IQ. period.

I covered a 5k race with mine a couple of weeks ago. Definitely not my first choice due to focusing speed. But I was itching to use the lens. Results (outside of a handful of misses) were rather remarkable. Kept it stopped down at f/5.6 and the shutter speed at 1/750s. Portraity runners.

If anything, I'd only want a faster and more accurate focusing motor/system on the 50-135mm if it ever got an upgrade -- optically it is rather nice (even at f/2.8). Pondering switching it to screwdrive, I bet that would make it focus a little quicker.

I think the motor in the D-FA is much more 'pro' than our aging SDM system. Really interested in seeing reviews with it on a finished K-1. Could make many a wedding photog happy.

1.51 lbs vs 3.86 lbs yeah his statement stands as he was conveying the weight is substantially more on the big D-FA. The DA* is comparatively like the weight of a kit lens.

Looks pretty droolworthy IMO! a few comparisons FA*85 rendering being made

Edited to get the DFA right
Speaking of droolworthy, why oh WHY did you include that shot of Schwartzes? That's just mean to those of us not living in Montreal.

I am totally blown away by the IQ on those shots - obviously a very good photographer as the correct focus is nailed every time and the images are rock steady, but really - astonishing sharpness and detail... looks like a great lens indeed

At the same time I must admit that the lens (or is it due to the PP?) is TOO sharp for portrait photos. :P

It looks like there is a lot of sharpening involved. Might be in-camera as well.

There are no sharpening artefacts in the bokeh. This is a * lens with Aero Bright and HD.
