No....I can tell, because the images are excellent and there are no damn squirrel shots!

Got to see if one of my lenses can fall off a shelf......so Mrs Rupert can help me get this one, it's magnificent! I've goat an old SMC 80-200 MF that likes to sit on the edge....a good breeze might do the job? I'd be heartbroken, and maybe even cry a little.....Mrs Rupert hates to see me cry......it makes me look even uglier, and that's damn hard to do!

Need to brush up on my acting skills......this lens is worth an award winning performance!

Regards!

Some nice APS-C crop pictures with the DFA* 70-200 on these pages. They are all taken with the K-3II. Not all of the pictures are full resolution, but the small thumbnail pictures will open a full resolution file. Looks extremely sharp to me.

The colors this lens produces are beautiful. Not to forget the sharpness and rendering is amazing too. World class optics if you ask me!

Really thought it was a simple Tamron knock off ?
[/sarcasm]

Seriously, happy to see Ricoh can pull such design when needed...

Another Pentaxian ordered the lens in the German Ricoh webstore yesterday and it was delivered today.

People now wait for him to finish work and test the lens out.

Made "worse" because he owns the Sigma 70-200 as well and could do comparisons.

The web should be flooded with samples soon enough.

I would like to hear from someone who has FA* 80-200mm F2.8 to compare. I feel this might be better, but I opted for the FA* right now mainly because of weight and price difference. Now please excuse me, I have to go and sell some stuff to fund these troubling LBA attacks...

I have the Sigma 70-200, and was wondering how the new Pentax would compare.

I look forward to your thoughts....

This lens is very important. It is the first really premium in-house Ricoh era lens. I am one of the many people who had concerns over Ricoh's ability to develop premium glass after Hoya gutted the company. It looks like Ricoh has done an excellent job.

I've got the Sigma, and I'm already jealous. I don't recall shooting a photo with it wide open and being amazed by the sharpness.

There are 4 Sigma 70-200/2.8s....... the last one which is the EX DG OS HSM should be close..... it's the current one still made for Canon and Nikon.... and is pretty good wide open at both ends centre wise.

Some more APS-C samples from the same source above. There's a bit of PF showing on some of these.

^^ The ones with purple fringing were made with the DA 16-85

---------- Post added 25-03-16 at 15:16 ----------

Amazing 100% crop (with pixel shift) I didn't apply output sharpening when I made it.

Thanks for the quick correction, and sorry for the misinformation. I was thrown by the title.

That crop does look very good!

LOL seems to me you ate too much of this Ultrasonic marketing.

The AF drive of 70-200 is modern. Wake up.
Modern for Pentax maybe... I know I will get this lens and will like it, but "industry leading" is an expression that needs to be earned somehow.
What is your comment on the extra weight and the huge diameter compared to others that use marketing tricks for 25 years+. Was Pentax SDM just marketing or a failure?

You'll likely only get conjecture from those of us here.

So conjecture I'll supply.. I suspect SDM was/is a failure due to both user sentiment snowballing into hysterics online and the general slowness to focus vs competing technologies... even though it wasn't/isn't terrible.

If Ricoh was offering screwdrive, SDM, or DC in a lens I'd pick DC every single time. It is fairly silent, quick, and reliable. With screwdrive you can pick two from that list. With SDM you can pick the other.
