After a long break, the Ricoh, finally, plans to announce a successor to the 645D medium format. The new model is rumored to get the name of Pentax 645D II.

New rumor - 645ZII with 100 MP sensor and 4K video will be shown at Photokina, 2016.
That is possible and only 4 months waiting.

K1 XT FF (sports and terrain camera) 20 Mpx - 16 fps - 2K €
K3 II APS-c 24 Mpx - 8 fps 1k €
645 Z II 100 Mpx - 3 fps 7K €
K2-S 20 Mpx - 0,5K €
Q & WG 16 Mpx - 0,3K €

Don't forget that they also have binoculars and telescopes...
do check out the industrial output of ricoh, it's so much more.

the range is complete.
No other company has this reach or this offer. bar none...

It"s insane to think that a third tier company far far from close to 50 % market share of the big twin can boast this sort of feat.

A.

This.

Let's see... since it has double the number of pixels, I would double the model name/letter (the Z part, as 645 is the mount); and it would be the top model... enter the 645ZZ Top

The battery required to power the electromagnets to move such a gigantic sensor around would be pretty amazing too
That's where some high temp superconductors would come in handy. The power requirements would be minimal and moving the sensor about would be child's play. The fly in the ointment is the superconductors...we don't have any high temp ones, unfortunately!!!. The only other way to move it would be to use micro-actuators, like the actuators they use in adaptive optics on telescopes, but on a micro scale. That would work and wouldn't necessarily use too much battery power.

I would be happy with just a 645zII featuring and EVF and electronic first curtain shutter (obviously) and no mirror box. In effect a lighter mirror less 645z, and it could be a little less deep as there is room in there for some space reduction.

But Pentax has zero mirrorless experience. I doubt they'd use the next MF iteration as their debut MILC. Something after the K-70 maybe.

You've already forgotten about the K-01?

My Q-7 is very disappointed to learn that it doesn't exist ... but I basically agree with your main point. I've been saying for some time now that Pentax needs to introduce a new "Q", this one with an EVF, to get more experience with that technology. I would also argue that they should build a larger MILC {K-70 looks like an excellent starting point for that} with EVF before they consider at all developing an MF MILC.
