If that is true I would assume that the new 100 Mpx sensor would be based on the one currently found in the Phase One XF 100MP that was co-developed by Sony. It would make sense as the sensor in the Pentax K-1 is based on the one found in Nikon 800 series - also co-developed by Sony.

Now I know that this is just a rumor and there is currently very little merit to it - but man can dream...

But the sensor is not what I would desire the most in the new 645. I would love to see the SR inbody stabilization. Not necessarily for shake reduction though. I would crave for the Pixel Shift - with 100 Mpx it becomes a really desirable feature. That would IMHO basically make it the best MF camera out there. What do you think?

Its more then just a rumour, it was told directly to me from Ricoh. BUT, they also said that this doesn't mean they have a camera ready for this sensor. They CAN use it if they need/want to do so. But who knows what they are brainstorming at the HQ in Japan

Let me guess... they are "carefully investigating" and "thinking" they "should do it". The sort of stuff we started hearing from 2012-2013 about the FF?
Probably they're working their butts off to make yet another amazing camera.

We have entered the realm of plausible deniability. Something is definitely going on in those labs.

Once more, though, we have the problem of a name - where do you go after K5, K3, K-1? Where do you go after 645D then Z?

Let's see... since it has double the number of pixels, I would double the model name/letter (the Z part, as 645 is the mount); and it would be the top model... enter the 645ZZ Top

I reckon that idea's got legs.

Only 100MP for 645? They need to make pixel-shift work on it to impress.

For by the time any 100MP 645 comes to market, Canikon (and Sony themselves) will probably all have 50MP+ full-frames available.

Does it come with a free beard?

I think they could build this camera in a relatively short time if they basically make a 645Z with a larger sensor inside. But do they have a processor that gives acceptable performance with a 100mp sensor?

So Phase One does the hard work with Sony and Ricoh reaps the benefits and puts the sensor in a much cheaper body with FF dslr-like operation. Must have been a Sony effort primarily then.

Can't believe Ricoh/Pentax is planning a new MF with FF sensor...

Not only Ricoh. Hasselblad are also said to soon put this sensor in one of their digital backs, a new generation of which is due to be announced any time now.

It's definitely a sensor developed by Sony. Phase One might have been of some assistance in the development (early feedback, fine tuning of colour profiles and more) and might enjoy some 'maiden client' privileges but the remaining of their communication around this sensor looks like usual marketing BS.
