Well, the last 645 lens to be released (upgraded 35mm) covered the full frame. Also you have to wonder how Ricoh plans to differentiate MF from small format going forward, now that the 36mp+pixel shift K-1 exists. Either MF needs pixel shift itself, or a much better/bigger sensor.

Ricoh Might do well to develop a cheaper 645z with the current sensor for around $4/5000 (or drop the price on the current one) and a more expensive one with 100mp sensor.

Beard is integral part of design. Really clever too. No more need for a tripod. You just bring a can of spray starch with you. When you get on site, spray the beard and work it into three legs before the starch hardens. When you are done, just soak it to return it to it's natural state where the camera will easily fit into a bag with it's own protective padding already wrapped around it.

This is a game changer for sure. I wish I would have thought of it.

it would stand to reason that the way forward is

K1 FF 36 Mpx - 4 fps - 2K €
K1 XT FF (sports and terrain camera) 20 Mpx - 16 fps - 2K €
K3 II APS-c 24 Mpx - 8 fps 1k €
645 Z II 100 Mpx - 3 fps 7K €
K2-S 20 Mpx - 0,5K €
Q & WG 16 Mpx - 0,3K €

Don't forget that they also have binoculars and telescopes...
do check out the industrial output of ricoh, it's so much more.

the range is complete.
No other company has this reach or this offer. bar none...

It"s insane to think that a third tier company far far from close to 50 % market share of the big twin can boast this sort of feat.

I think there is a priority. Apparently, 645 is one of top priority as it is a class leading product. So we can expect two product lines:
645Z 3x4 cropped 645
And 645X/645F 4x5 full 645.

The 645s still have their aperture-reporting arms, don't they? Oh please, Ricoh, please don't drop the ball on this one...

My rule of thumb is that the other makers give photographers what they want; Pentax gives photographers what they need. Hence why the 645Z is such a good deal. If Ricoh keeps up this thing of providing more than acceptable quality plus a few quirky or standout extras and all at killer prices, they will do very well indeed.

Very cool. Assuming the price will be similar to that of the 645Z, they are giving PhaseOne and Hasselblad even more of a run And it makes sense - with FF sensors reaching resolutions of 42 and 50 MP, MF needs to stay ahead.

645 line is not only about resolution. There is no need to stay ahead of 24x36 sensors because it is just not comparable.

Concerning price, I would' t expect the next MF with 100Mp sensor to be below 12K Euros if it reaches the market. A price ratio "645Z vs 645 100Mp" comparable to "K3 II vs K1" would not be chocking. And it would still be a bargain for that sensor compared to other offers from P1 and Hasselblad (yet to come).

I read every post here...sort of interesting....don't think it means much to me, but it was worth reading. Always good to see Pentax thinking ahead, it seems that under Ricoh it is getting better all the time.

Moving along...I have nothing to contribute but a beard I just recently started.....never had a beard before....sure beats shaving!

Best Regards!
