Additional pieces of information from The irix 15mm f/2.4 ? Soundimageplus

QuoteOriginally posted by David Taylor-Hughes:
- It is hoped that this lens will be available in May 2016
- Again, while this isn't settled yet, the lighter 'Firefly' version will be sold around the £400 mark and the heavy duty 'Blackstone' version for £500.

(...)

I was assured that the rumours that it is manufactured by Samyang are NOT true.

(...)

A rectilinear 11mm f/4 manual focus full frame lens (...) should be appearing around next December
Re. the Samyang rumour: the chairman and co-founder of the Swiss company 'TH Swiss AG' that stands behind the Irix 15mm f/2.4, Hubert Grzegorz Adamczyk, is also managing a Polish company named Delta, which is the exclusive distributor of Samyang in Poland and owns the e-retailer foto-tip.

So basically this is a Samyang produced lens designed, who knows where, but the company is based in Switzerland for marketing reasons and so they can blast neutrino's on the lens with the LHC for coating (somebody has gotta pay for that thing).

I don't get how you conclude that? Maybe the distributor of Samyang saw the brand is a success and decided to participate in another company. No more, no less...

Basicaly is how thw world works today, made at the lowest bidder, but you put the in the package "assembled in" or "Designed in" dont want your customers know your product it is made in China? "Made with internacional parts"

As long as the price is good and the results even better, i dont care where is made

And you conclude that from their assurance that the lens is not produced by Samyang? Is it opposite day today?

An interesting discussion

Is there not a parallel to this Samyang discussion with Pentax equipment being assembled in Vietnam? (throws bait in water)

I'm not after an argument, but if this lens and any others they make are good quality and weather sealed to boot, then what's to lose if they succeed?

Yes there's some obvious marketing ploys, but if you were monetising this, wouldn't you look for a way of making your product attractive? For example, MIJ is used quite regularly here in the Marketplace for a reason.

Look, I see more options for us with this lens, and if the lens is rubbish then nothing will be lost to us if we don't buy it. If it's mediocre and the price is too high, the same will happen. Marketing will gain interest, but the quality of the images it produces will be what sells this lens.

Besides, I'm just happy they remembered to add the K mount.
(I hope Zeiss read that last line)

So, what, about 80% than the current street price for the Samy 16mm f2, or 40% more than the HD 15mm f4? Seems like a hard sell based on basic specs alone.

Neutrino.

Seriously though, I'd love to see some shots from this. And it looks like the design is different than the Samy, so I would hope the 80% price differential reflects in the IQ. I've gotta admit -- I'm as shallow as they come. It's a fine looking lens. For that price though, it's gotta compete with the likes of Sigma ART, etc.

We have no idea whatsoever how that thing will perform. The Samyang has pretty bad flare resistance and is not weather sealed.

Remember how I ended my post with "on basic specs alone"? I agree that the shots are what make the lens interesting/useful/wanted etc.

He was obviously disagreeing with you on the specs bit.
What's the problem?

cant compare this FF lens with the APC lens HD15mm.. For everyone getting the K-1 this lens is interesting news. Looking forward for some reviews to see if it can compete the 15-30mm @ 15mm

since it is a prime lens, I have no doubts that it could be similar in IQ. Time will tell... the waiting continues on every level
