How is that combination to handle in the "field"? Do you find the DA 560 keeps you too far away from the bears that you want a shorter lens so you can get up close and personal?

Just find out the reason for 2 K1s is that Ricoh really wants he use a K1 to take pictures of K1...

Certainly a 400mm f4 that could be used with a 1.14xTC and still auto focus would hit a market spot. I have an older generation A-400 f/2.8 and aside from being astonishingly heavy
it is astonishingly good, and when matched up with either the classic 1.4x-L or 2x -L you have a broad range of effective focal lengths. It seems like with modern technology they ought
to be able to make a lens as good as they did 20 or 30 years ago.

I really don't understand why Pentax never add that kind of telephoto lens to the road map? Also, features are really lame compare to 150-450 and 70-200 lenses. DA 560mm have poor design and lack of features.

Btw why this kind of lens have a silver ring? Star lens have a golden or yellow ring while other normal lenses don't. New Pentax 645 lenses have silver rings tho.
How exactly?

I agree with those who claim that the lenses he holds in his hands are prototypes of the 560/5.6. What I find more interesting are the lenses on the photo in the background. Have any of you seen such designs from Pentax?

DA10-17 fish eye lens has a silver ring too. Maybe they both have a silver ring because they are the opposite extremes of the lens line up.

It would also hardly be surprising if such lenses under development don't show up on any public roadmap. I suspect there is the roadmap we see - and then there is the development roadmap; lenses in various stages of development but not yet financially cleared to manufacture.

I suspect many of the development raodmap lenses will make it to our roadmap if K-1 is a success.
I think it is best to see the roadmap as a marketing tool.

It's a way of Pentax trying to encourage people to buy into the K mount system by saying "here are some upcoming lenses". However, it's a balancing act as they don't want to over promise - as you say there are probably many such lenses actually in development. But many will also never see the light of day.

Based on complete supposition, and measuring of the hood, no strap lugs, and the knurling on the hood ring, I am fantasizing on the DFA 400 F4. My FA*300 F2.8 doesn't have measurements that are even close in LOA, Width, and Hood Length vs width. My working back on the DA HD 560 measurements, I easily blunder forth at 400 F4.

The collapsed prototype of the 560mm has a green ring too. Look similar.

With the latest lens designs from Ricoh (DFA15-30,DFA24-70,DFA28-105) I'd be very surprised if Ricoh would release a new 300 f2.8 or 400 f4. IMHO, they just think that the DFA150-450 covers up to 450 and the DFA560 cover the 600mm range, that's it, which is about right when considering that most amateur photogs won't spend $4000 into a lens. It's kinda self fulfilling prophecy as the category of people who'd buy a 400 f4 or 600 f5.6 most likely get those from Canon or Nikon already. If you consider a $4000 lens the camera mount compatibility isn't an issue, the cost of the camera body being cheap in comparison.

Any special fast lenses could be real only later, in 2019-2020, when all roadmap lenses will be launched and Pentax FF system will be stable and solid.
DA*560/5.6, DA*200/2.8 and 300/4 are FF lenses, DFA150-450/4.5-5.6 covers very popular focal range.

I don't see any space for DFA200/2, 300/2.8, 400/4, 500/4 or 4.5 lenses now. It would be very expensive and rather special lenses.

Something longer 560 mm - I hope it will be 1.4x and 2x DFA TC.

Canon 600/4 is 11500 USD
Nikkor 600/4 is from 8600 till 12300 USD (different versions)
Canon 800/5.6 is 13000USD
Nikkor 800/5.6 is 16300 USD
Sigma 800/5.6 is made only by special order 6600 USD

Pentax 560/5.6 is 5000 USD
