We did see the design for the 70-200 a few years ago, 3 or 4, so 3.5 years would seem to be the standard.
Pentax patent for a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens | Photo Rumors

Current pricing would suggest an HD version of the current lens will be out soon, with the new one out much later.

I do wonder how much benefit a 200 f2.8 prime would have over the 70-200 f2.8. I guess a little smaller size, but would need to have a different motor to make it auto focus faster. The other thing would working to decrease purple fringing, which can be pretty severe with the DA *200.

But I agree with the others. Doesn't feel like a priority right now.

In fix it’s CA and conner to conner sharpens is easy to control than in zoom.

I don't think the DA* 200 f/2.8 is FF compatible...is it?
I believe it is... but my “Gorgeous Lady” (SMC Pentax-A* 200mm F2.8 ED) most certainly is.

I just happened to find a "like new" FA* 200mm f/2.8, I have never seen one on ebay but here at the local flee market. I really scratched my head about buying or not buying, but I did buy it and its a real gem. I have used it twice on my Sony A7-II and I really really like the results. Could not find too much information on the net about the quality of the lens. I think it's just like my FA* 85mm but in longer, a lens with character. Will open (there is not even a sample image thread!) a thread soon, and I am really looking forward to using it on the K-1

It's just the same as a DA*200 but the shape and noisy AF (and no aperture ring).

It is, that's why I'm surprised that they are working on another one. If they are, of course.
Because it is a 1993 film era design (not that it is bad but its CA can be mean).

I'm pleased to say though... it's still a quick corrective fix in most of the decent PP software packages.

That would certainly make it stand out! Give it special near focus capabilities, and it would have something the f2.8 zoom lenses don't.

I have fa * 200.it is very nice and super nice when talking about colour rendering. I have many fa lenses but 2 lenses are must have fa 31 and fa* 200.
I like the 3D character of both lenses some thing I couldn't find with the rest lenses which I have.

What 200mm? They filed a patent. Doesn't mean there will ever be a lens using it and even if so might be 5 years away. Why would that go on a 'lens map'?? Lens map is for things heading to production, not gleams in designers eyes that might never see the light of day.

And there are 6 on the road map not yet released. Plus the new ones already released. Did you even look at the map?
