Singapore Young Photographer of the Year wins using Pentax

All of us Pentax users in Singapore are thrilled that one of our prolific Pentax users (his nick on Clubsnap is night86mare) has just won the Singapore Young Photographer of the Year award.

I have included a link to his thread at Clubsnap for those who want to see some of his images. The vast majority of his work was shot with the K100D, though he has just upgraded to the K20D.

Congratulations night86mare, you deserve it.

BTW he beat hundreds of other Canon, Nikon, Sony and Olympus toting photographers... yay, Pentax

Cannot beat raw talent and max use of the camera's features. IQ beats FPS anytime.

Cheers,

Rene

Talent is more important than equipment once you get to a certain level (and that 'certain level' is basically 'a DSLR') - it's a tribute to him, and a nice wakeup to all of us DSLR users to get out there and shoot, because our equipment certainly isn't holding us back!

Another amazing talent.
I think he has the potential to be World Young Photographer of the Year too.
I wonder if he's using Sigma 10-20mm for most of his shots.
Thanks for the post, Creampuff. It's really inspiring.

Buying a Pentax doesn't make you a photographer. It makes you a Pentax owner.

Same applies for any other brand.

the Singapore young photographer of the year has one using a camera.

Well frank and I had lunch with night86mare today...
By way of background info, he picked up photography just a few years ago and got the Pentax K100D because it was the most affordable and because of SR. The difference Shake Reduction makes is most telling when those lovely sunset images are shot in falling light. He shares his methods freely and when others using more advanced cameras like the D80 try to emulate him, the lack of in-camera stabilization is a severe handicap. They are limited to using a tripod whereas he can still shoot handheld.

If you're talking about his landscapes, briefly he uses (Tianya) graduated neutral density filters. Camera set to a tripod, straight center weighted metering with +exposure compensation. PP for his normal landscapes or IR all done in Photoshop or Photomatix for HDR.
