* Yeah it's an MX-1 but I believe that it has a same generation sensor as the Q7/Q-S1
Fair enough on the DR - I am actually really surprised at the ISO performance too, that is pretty much the same as the G16, which if memory serves was the best in that class for a while. The colour depth is a bit off, but not too dissimilar, also.
I'm not sure that test scores adequately capture it. I borrowed a Q for a while, and had a V1 (10mp Aptina sensor, not the Sony one now in their cameras), and neither of them seem to hold a candle to what the GM1 can do - it is more DSLR, and in terms of sharpness and overall image quality with say the Oly 45mm is simply stellar. In daylight, on par with what I am getting with Fuji and Pentax (and did get with Sony NEX for that matter).
Back on topic, I'd say there is definitely a place for the 1" sensor. I'd expressed this a while ago that I hoped that Ricoh would resurrect the Caplio line with one in, but it looks like Panny beat them to that. For fair weather shooting either 1/1.7 or 1 inch is enough. I'll suggest another compromise - 1/1.2"!
