I've sent him about 3 PM's but no response. I was meant to meet him in Sydney to get the camera but timing wasn't good. Have followed up but without reply

Unfortunately, this "situation" may force people to rethink how touring hardware is managed. In the future, a recipient may have to file an abbreviated version of what others ask for - "emergency" contacts, etc. I know that when I was in the hospital, for example, on-line contacts/roles were completely out of my mind.
