There are 4 Sony QX models, the aspc QX1, is the biggest. The qx10 the smallest(and the one I have). They don't have to be attached to the phone to take photos, but can be.Its easy to remember to take it with you when you go somewhere.Keys/phone/wallet/sunnies/camera!.12345.

Simen, don't you think this concepts been thought of already?

I use plenty of small cameras ,P/S...Qs...Panasonic GM1, which with the 2 body cap lenses can be the smallest ILC

Now the mount and lens is 15mm, then the camera body is 21/2mm.....my phn the Samsung S4 zoom is a combined 30mm....the Samsung K zoom is slimmer

10mm is not going to happen soon....if at all....integrated cameras will surpass the need for what you are thinking of.

But in the meantime, get a K1 and turn night into day!

1/2.3" is still for super-zooms and 1" for all another photo gears.
There are plenty of suppliers for all those sizes and even some in between. A high end camera phone should have at least a 1/2,3" sensor, but if it gets too large, it wont be small enough to gain popularity. 1/1,7" is some of the larger i can think is realistic.

Yes, I have thought about this concept earlier. I'm sure hundreds more have thought of it, but nobody have ever tried this in the market.

Less then 10mm phones, with integrated camera and lens, are all around us. Like this 4,2mm thin 16 Mp camera/lens module. Making a phone without lens, thinner then 10mm are no technical challenge these days. I'm sure 15mm in total for phone and an interchangeable lens is easy too, even with 1/1,7" sensor size.

Integrated cameras will never be able to offer interchangeability. And if you add zoom the compromises on sharpness, abberations and aperture will skyrocket. Several small primes will solve this and no integrated camera will be close. All these integrated camera compromises have been tried out in the market in several ways, and none of them succeeded for the high end camera phone market.

The Q-System indeed cound use a restart. Given the extremely small sensor, it will never be a low-light champion. Taking that into account, it could still be the "always with me"-camera. However, most of the Pentaxians are die-hard users of viewfinders. And here“s the catch: None of the Qs offers a reasonable view-finder.
So if they come up with a new body, they“d be better off offering at least an add-on electronic viewfinder like Nikon does in their 1-series.

Let's wait and see. Speculation is horrible. Ricoh own them and will make a statement soon, not any Pentax forum members.
Did Ricoh make any statement about the termination of the GXR product line? No, they just let it vanish slowly.

Electronic viewfinders are bulky. They should rather have a folding type. With a Z-mechanism It could even fit the system camera phone concept I'm describing.

Critical voices would say it only fits one field of view, but look at how the K-1 viewfinder is cropped to fit two different fields of view. The same can be done with a folding viewfinder with a simple black and wite segmented LCD. One black frame for each field of view. Only the active one is visible.

.
The sensors for smart phones are specially made for smart phones. Forget about it if you says about sensors for photo cameras.
Wrong way discussion.

Q system - if it will die or will restart with 1" Sony sensor. No any ways.

Phone imaging sensors are made for more then just phones. There are lots of examples of the same sensors being used in phones, surveillance cameras, car cameras, compact cameras, machine vision cameras, microscope cameras, telescope cameras and more. But they often differ in the way they are implemented. Mechanical, electrical, filters and packaging.

Ricoh should make a Q with only an EFV and a fast bluetooth connection with mobile phone screens.

If it makes the camera really tiny, I like that idea. I talk about box of matches tiny.

But the sad truth is that people will continue to use phones in stead.

As I actually Use my Q more than my K-50, I'd be more than a bit sad. Better than a phone, that's for sure.

Still, We can hope that they're gonna bring a new body.

It doesn't move quickly in Japanese stores, since the first Q-S1 listing is on #45 on bcn

http://bcnranking.jp/category/subcategory_0008.html

So those sales can't be much. So maybe they sell like 100 Q's in a week.

The Q simply did not sell. Dedicated camera with small sensors (sub-1") are unable compete with cameras in phones.
