The K mount lenses to Q, makes shots of offshore surfing reefs possible for me at a fraction of the cost of aps_c or FF.When the whales are migrating(no swell times) its a marvel!

If we see another Q it will need very good connectivity to do well-

Fast Bluetooth, WiFi and NFC

If you could transfer images by tapping the Q to an NFC enabled smartphone then you might have something that could live alongside smartphones for a bit longer.

The market is changing and we all know that Ricoh reps are studying the market.

- Loads of good long zoom bridge camera's are available.
- no new sensor for Q yet in the 1/1.7 format
- q is having less supporters and they probably by now have a model with the big sensor (so no urgents to buy anything new)
- smartphones got a lot better over the past 4 years
- the market is upwards in the sense of larger sensors

So is the Q over? Maybe there is one new model coming, but maybe not.

That would be the K-01. APS-C mirrorless
I have one, its nice and all but I'd like an EVF and a smaller package (maybe with a new mount), with the option for K-mount.

I see the point with mobile phones taking over occasional shooting, I use mine with its good sony wideangle and acceptable sensor also, but it still is far from being a "photographic camera". The handling, the interface, the speed of changing settings and the sheer fun to use it are nowhere near the experience I have with the Q.

When I travel light the (original) Q is with me most of the time with the standard 01 lens, with easy access to the quick wheel and frequent use of the high contrast bw or capturing raws for PP. The phone is used for wideangle and snapshots.

I could imagine that the future of the mount could be in providing photographic tools with features neither a mobile phone nor a standard megazoom digicam will be able to achieve. If you ask me I would be a sucker for a Q with a 1.7" foveon sensor, a special bw sensor, one with a UVNIR* sensor - or maybe just pixelshift? They might not cost so much at this size but could bring a lot of fun to users that can not or don't want to afford these features in larger insanely expensive dedicated cameras.

However, just a thought and wish, not a prediction.

*I'm aware of the fact that the reduced amount of light might make this a less desireable option.

I think the Q needs a great sensor or some creative technology so it can compete with the smartphones and compacts.
It would be great if it would have some sort of Dual-ISO technology embedded by default. This would give the sensor better DR and noise properties, at the cost of some resolution (but honestly, these small sensors have a lot of MP to begin with, I wouldn't mind sacrificing some MP for better DR, colours). That could give the tiny Q sensor at least some ways to compete with m43 and bigger-sensor cameras, and effectively beat the smartphones.
And next up is a good lens lineup. The Q is already on the right path for this, but we will see where it goes.

Ricoh/Pentax won't be making only dslr in the future. Wont go into details. But no worries.

Kenspo just said Ricoh will come with a mirrorless full frame system for Pentax on Photokina. (Photorumors.com are you reading this?)

D1N0 said you said it, no matter if you actually said it, it will become a new rumor anyway

I concur: I read somewhere kenspo has written Ricoh would come with a mirrorless system, both APS-C and full frame, under the Pentax brand until Photokina.

Google, are you indexing?

Pentax NX, would be nice!

An AF adapter for K Mount is all that's needed hardware wise

OH, and change the numbering system.....there can only be one 1 and that's got a K in front of it!

Or following Occam's Razor, kenspo would simply be stating that the Q line is still being developed and supported.
