Tamron make the Sony and Sony-Zeiss lenses.
Cosina makes the Loxia and Batis
Zeiss makes the Otis, Milvus and Cine glass.

The Sony/Zeiss FE 55mm is part of the same design program that produced the 35mm, 45mm, & 85mm F/1.8 Tamron SP lenses.

Thanks, Winder - that's good info!

The Otus and Milvus lenses are manufactured in Japan by Cosina as well. The Touit lenses are manufactured in Japan but not by Cosina; maybe by Fuji.

Otis is something (somebody?) else .

I just turned down a US$430 lens offer from a local user who is jumping onto another system, I really wanted it but I find myself having a hard time disposing some of my Pentax items (DA70 & DA100WR) to justify buying the item. Sigh. A real gem for sure.

The Sigma 85mm is easily my favorite lens, despite its size. For that price, you could always resell it if you don't love it. I think you'd probably have a hard time parting with it though.

Moreover, that lens is very rare in terms of K-mount availability (specially in my area) and the price for NEW is very expensive for me. . But my main reason why I passed is that I am starting to downsize (and weight) my camera gear as I tend to move smaller and lighter would be better for me and happily accept the trade-offs.

picked up a new sigma 85 today. so far very impressed with the sharpness and silent focus and very curious to compare to my FA* 85 which I've almost been too afraid to out in case I damage it (plus on the 10+ shoots I've used the FA* with the past 2 weeks or so the focus seemed to totally fail a few times forcing me back to my 70-200).

the FA* has a much warmer colour tone but the sigma seems more accurate from quick tests so far. having the sigma hood extension is pretty handy when used on a crop body.

That's interesting, because I've heard people complain in the past, multiple times, that Sigma lenses render warm compared to Pentax lenses. I've never noticed a problem with it, but your observation strikes me as ironic.

I'm never ironic I'm english... oh wait

just did another quick test though with the same settings and the FA*85 does look quite a bit warmer compared to the sigma 85. a quick check on the rgb histogram on my k3 shows more red and less blue on the pentax compared to the sigma.

The Sigma 85mm has very good color. I think Sigma changed their coatings after the Sigma 50mm F/1.4. The 50mm shows warmer tones, but the 85mm doesn't.

That's correct.
Also the industrial, science and military lenses.
But absolute not one commercial consumer lens, this time is long ago.
Best regards

Sigma announced new line of cinema lenses, confirms new 85mm f/1.4 Art lens design | Photo Rumors

"The interesting part is that the new Sigma 85mm T1.5 FF cinema lens has a new lens designed - 14 elements in 12 groups compared to the 11 elements in 8 groups design used in the existing Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM lens. That is a clear indication of the upcoming/rumored Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art lens."

Interestingly all of Sigma's new Cine lenses are remakes of there current DSLR lenses. Perhaps I shouldn't have been dismissive of Mistral75's thread about Tokina's new Cine lenses. Would it not of made more sense for Tokina to release these lenses as DSLR lenses first where there would be a much higher volume in sales. Maybe they didn't because of some collaboration with another company. Sorry to get side tracked.

Just assumptions. Sigma does something so Tokina must be making primes for Pentax. Strange kind of reasoning. There is no evidence of a renewed Tokina Pentax cooperation.
