That's a nice insight, thank you very much for that asahi man ! It's sad to see Sigma leaving K-mount, especially on 'key' lenses like the 85mm...

It seems surprising that they won't target any areas where Pentax currently lacks with some recent lenses. Like the 20 1.4, this 85 1.4, etc. Just a few lenses to stay in the K-mount arena.

Curious times.

I'd buy that one (or the 24/1.4) immediately.

Pentax had the FA* 24/2.0 and one can find it used sometimes, but so far I have never seen a copy that produced convincing images anywhere near wide open.

If that 500 will be available for Pentax, count me in.

It won't be. The question is when Pentax will give us her DFA 500 (or something similar)! That is what will happen first, but when is the big question!

There is the DA 560 which will work on full frame.

You're right but I'm hoping for something shorter (in size), brighter and accompanied with 2 excellent TCs.

It would be easier to just get a Nikon Body with the new Sigma lens.

Getting a Nikon body is not an option. But like redpit, I want something shorter, brighter and cheaper.

No offence but your comment is misplaced. If I wanted a non Pentax solution I would have gone that way. I was in Nikon camp prior to Pentax after all. I'm not asking from Pentax to change its strategy and offer me the best video in the market in their still cameras, that would be unwise. All I'm asking is the refurbished version of the lens you posted above, with improved and lighter optics-construction and a faster USM motor... So I'm asking something that Pentax is good at and not something that is very unlikely to happen...

FA★ 600mm f/4 is shorter (457mm vs 522mm), albeit thicker (176mm vs 130mm) and much heavier (6.8kg vs 3kg) than DA 560mm f/5.6.

When you look prices of this long bright glass, a camera body should be an afterthought. It is just practical not to wait for a lens that might not happen in your lifetime. The FA* 600 was developed by an entirely different company (long before the Hoya Merger and even longer before Ricoh took over) on the AF wave of the eighties and early nineties.

It might be the case as you describe it. I believe that Pentax-Ricoh has made a new opening to the market offering prime level as they call it products and I expect that this will include some serious prime ultra tele or tele glass. In case there won't be such an offering "soon enough" for me I have my plan B. In any case I'm not from those photographers that just sit and wait for new equipment as if the exisitng is restricting or useless. I do my job with my exisitng equipment (totally satisfied) and I have set my goals-seen what could give me a little more boost for my kind of photography
