I'm okay with manual focus, so long as the focus is infinity. Works every time.

I've heard that the new Sigma 85 1.4 Art will be officially announced next month at Photokina. I hope they see the glaring hole in the Pentax lens lineup and offer it in K Mount.

Or maybe Pentax will fill the 'hole' themselves

With Ricoh going to the all electronic KAF4 mount I expect Sigma will finally start releasing more K-mount options. Just don't expect them to come for a year or two after the Canon and Nikon versions. Like Sony users, Ricoh users will have to wait a while.

It is also quite possible that we see a new D-FA 85mm lens that is made by Sigma. The new KAF4 definitely increases the odd of a Sigma version in K-mount one way or another.

It will be interesting to see the changes for the new Art version.
The only real complaint I have with the existing version is its size/weight. Performance wise, its outstanding.

The existing 85mm f1.4 HSM on my K-1 last week (at f1.4)

I guess you haven't heard that f/1.4 is useless on a FF camera!

What new 1.4 and 1.8 lenses? I want all of them if they are at least that kind of useless as Sigma 85/1.4 is today

We are probably going to be getting the Tamron 35mm, 45mm, & 85mm F/1.8 lenses for K-mount very soon. Will they be rebadged by Ricoh and sold as D-FA lenses? Who knows. With the new KAF4 mount we will see a lot more lens options. More Sigma and Tamron options coming very soon. Hopefully Ricoh brings these lenses in with their own HD coatings so we get consistent colors.

guess I should wait to see if they release a new 85mm art on pentax then. I don't *need* the sigma 85mm as I've got the FA* one but I'm still soooooo tempted to pick it up...

I had this same dilemma back in may. I asked my self these two questions

1) What would I want to see updated on the current sigma 85mm? My answer was, not much. The 85 mm is already a very good lens. Maybe WR but sigma doesn't do that. Sigma traditionally removes the OS feature from k-mount varients.

2) If/When sigma comes out with an "Art" version of the 85mm, will they offer it in the K-mount? Given Sigma's recent rhetoric...it's very possisble they won't.

With that in mind, I decided to buy the current one.

Agreed. AFAIK, it is very good.
If the Art version follows expectations it will be a killer. But it'd be very interested in a Pentax version as well.

They will IMO, we'll probably have to wait, as usual.

If we indeed get that new tamron SP lenses, it would be great to get also that tamron dock for them Friend got it with tamron 85 few weeks ago, works way better than sigma usb dock.

I hope you're right. It would be great to see Tamron manufacturing lenses in the k-mount. How I wish they'ed give us their 150-600 and their 16-300.
