I'd do it overnight if i had enough cash...
Well the D500 is another 2000€. I'd like to stay with Pentax, as I'm really satisfied of my gear, but if I go for Nikon, I'll do it completely: having two systems would be too expensive / impractical.
But if in a few years, they still don't seem to want to release that kind of lenses, maybe I'll decide to leave, indeed. For now, I'm happy with my 150-450, and I need to save for the K-1 !

Sigma has no plans for a Pentax line of the new art and sport lenses.
My 60 minutes with Sigma and a lot of coffee were interesting but in case of Pentax more sadly than interesting.
The Japanese chief of engineers only shook his head after the point that I know a big pack of Pentax user worldwide with the will to buy this new 85 and all the other new lenses
But nope,Sigma isn't looking for that,no interest.
I gave him current numbers of production and numbers of sale of the K-1 but only answer was,no way currently.
But nobody knows the situation in 2 years.
That was the last sentence and than we talked about the new 4.0 500.
But not anymore about Pentax anyway.
The new 500 is a dream, lightweight and absolute highest end.
But,not for Pentax.
Best regards
Thank you for your useful insights Asahi Man!
Based on them, I ordered a copy of this sigma 85 last week, I look forward to receiving it.
I doubt upcoming Art version could be so good in comparison with HSM one so that I regret this purchase...

When will we see a clear lens road map from Ricoh? Do they have an 85mm under production? I don't care if Sigma makes K-mount glass or not as long as I have access to glass that is as good or better than the Sigma glass. I already have a Sigma 85mm F/1.4 so no hurry. I'm surprised Ricoh was not far enough along in development to show future glass at Photokina.

seems to me the widespread adoption of the Sony E mount which enables photographers to adapt pretty much any lens to their Sony mirrorless body has enabled Sigma and others to expand the market for their DSLR lenses without having to directly support another mount.

On petapixel some (comparison) samples: Review: Sigma's 85mm f/1.4 ART Lens Exceeds Expectations

Sigma is really going for the major league with this lens. I must say I like the Nikon Bokeh balls best .

The original Sigma 85mm was already tack-sharp and rendered beautifully, so it will be interesting to see the new and old compared head-to-head.

The main area where I would like improvement is autofocus speed. Not that it's slow, but it's not particularly fast either. This review indicates that the new 85mm is fast, so even if that's the only real improvement, it would be welcome.

The other two areas for me would be CA control and added weather resistance. The review suggests that it does have some amount of weather sealing, even if not official, and does pretty well in the CA department. I don't know if I would upgrade from my sigma 85 but if were someone who had to choose between the two, the new one has a lot of compelling reason to buy it.

Not that it matters since it's not available in the k-mount.

For K-mount the old version will be best.

Older version is supposed to be massive as well. Is there any comparison between former HSM and new Art?
The latter won't be available in K mount though

The old Sigma is the size of the Canon 85/1.2:

The Quality of the size and weight of the new Sigma is just abysmal.

The new and the old sigma and the Canon 85mm 1.2 and the new Samyang 85mm 1.2 (with hood, got to unsee that).

The Sigma is clearly longer than the others

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for! New art is significantly bigger. Sigma does wonders these days this art must be exceptional
