All i understand is:

- Theres a problema, some Sigma lenses make a scratch in the Pentax K1 Body, and Sigma is going to replace the part that make the scratch and repair the affected body. I think is the apropiate way to manage the problem.

I have the opposite opinion. I see Sigma as a valuable part of the K-mount ecosystem, and I feel that without the additional lens choices that Sigma brings, a Pentax DSLR would not be nearly as compelling. While there is some overlap between Pentax and Sigma lens choices, both companies also offer some very unique lenses..
No more than not original car parts are part of the car manufacturers ecosystem. Blaming the car manufacturer for unoriginal parts that don't fit properly is silly...

I'm not sure it's the best analogy, since there is literally no expectation that a part for a 2008 Ford Taurus should also work on a 2016 Ford Taurus. Here, we're talking about lenses that have fit on every Pentax DSLR ever made, and most, if not all, of the Pentax film SLR's as well.

It is also not expected that you will take the old "parts" from your 2008 Ford Taurus and migrate them to your 2016 Ford Taurus, without which parts it has limited or no functionality.

So while there's a bit of wisdom in your analogy, it's not a particularly useful illustration IMO.

I have emailed Sigma Australia to get the details on how to send my lens to them
I will post their reply here when I get it so others can take up the free "fix"

---------- Post added 05-29-16 at 01:38 PM ----------

My two cents worth for Sigma users - I like silent lenses in KAF-3 mount - Pentax until now have not supplied a silent 70-200 F2.8 lens - and now they have, it's was priced at THREE times what I paid for my new Sigma.
I know it isn't weather proof - but THREE times - DAMN
I can buy the Pentax FF camera or I can buy the Pentax lens, but not both - so a free fix from Sigma is a blessing - especially since they didn't have to do it at all
Update from Sigma Australia's Importer/Agent:

Our technicians in our Port Melbourne office can perform the free mount replacement for this K-1 compatibility issue. However we are currently waiting on a shipment of these modified lens mounts. I am expecting them to arrive in the next 1-2 weeks. If you are in Melbourne you can bring the lens to our service centre 8.30-4.30 Mon-Fri. We also have the following interstate offices that you could take the lens to and they will send it on to us in Melbourne for repair.

What? Doesn't Canon have to provide the fix for this?

I think 3rd party lens manufacturers do pretty well as far as their track record. I am impressed and wish them well.

That's exactly the kind of inflammatory comment that can get you on a certain person's "ignore" list.

Oh well. I was accused of being anti-Sigma and if I'm accused of being a Sigma sympathizer that's OK too. The truth (hopefully) lies in the in between spaces of moderation and tolerance.

Does this really need to be said? Despite the direction that this thread has taken, the problem, initially, was with people claiming that it is Ricoh's responsibility to make sure third party lenses work properly.

The argument was not intended to disparage Sigma.

Quotes can't ignored people. mr Edgar refused to be a reasonable person and kept blaming everyone but Sigma for Sigma's faults and that's why I am ignoring the person.

If you are wanting to police this thread, then perhaps you could have started with people who were engaging in outright name-calling, with insults such as "childish", "fanboy", and "insufferable". Did none of that bother you? I don't see how any of that contributed to the discourse.

I've tried to be respectful throughout this conversation, but there are some people on here who seemed to not appreciate an alternate point of view. And whenever I've asked a substantive question that was relevant to the discussion, it was usually ignored.

That's certainly one way of looking at it, and it may be perfectly valid. But the other side of the coin is that the Sigma lenses have mounted just fine on every other Pentax DSLR ever made, and probably all the film SLR's as well. So that's something to consider.

But I don't think anybody can ever really prove which point is "right". And I'm not sure it even matters, since Sigma is taking care of it for anybody who is so worried about a tiny scratch.

You can certainly speak for your own intentions, but several people on here did disparage Sigma, sometimes savagely. And of course it went the other way as well. Ergo, things get testy when people are passionate about their gear. Nothing too surprising there. But that being said, I think things have been fairly tame on here. Hardly an epic flame war.

For Pentax Forums this was a flame war... it's pretty calm here usually.
