Except for the (for very good reasons) cut price but still excellent D-FA 28-105, these new lens patent rumors seem to be pointing towards a fixed-aperture-zoom philosophy. Interesting.

No kidding, why 35? The 28-70 f/4 AL was decent, give that one a refresh with some better QC than the original.

70mm is a bit short and 28mm is not very wide. 35-80 is a better range if you planning on packing a real wide angle. Plus there is a 100-300/f4 in the works. Add a 20-35/f4 and you have a coherent f4 lens strategy.

Fair enough, I didn't look at it that way.

Very cool. A coherent f/4 strategy would work wonderfully with the K1.
I have the 24-70 f/2.8 and soon to have the 70-200 f/2.8 and now I realize that size is going to be an issue.
f/4 would be perfect, as it would be smaller.
With FF, I will be very happy with f/4.

I have a Pentax MF 35-80 I used to use with my K-1000. It is a nice range.

A coherent f/4 lens strategy would include a 24-105 f/4 in my book.. I'd even take a 24-80 f/4 if it was sharp on the wide end..

I agree. However, a 35-80 f4 could be a fairly compact lens — might it not be a DFA limited zoom? Bring on a DFA 20-35 f4 Limited and a DFA 80-150 f4 Limited and you have a trio of compact, high quality zooms that will be unique to Pentax.

As long as the image quality is high and the AF is fast, it will be a great little lens for the K-1.

oh I see.. a 20-40mm limited for FF in a way

I'd rather have less lenses to carry around.. not more haha 24-105 (or 80) and a 70-200 f/4 would be fantastic over here!

What benefits would the K-1 with a bag of F4 zooms have (if any) over a K-3 II with a bag of F2.8 zooms?
