For me, the one-handed grip is mostly for the time
between shots...when I'm just holding the camera or walking around. I don't like using a neckstrap, so having a firm, solid,
comfortable grip on the camera that doesn't require squeezing hard, while still having a free hand, is a big deal. But when I'm actually taking the shot, then the second hand comes up and cradles the lens.
Although it is occasionally useful to be able to take one-handed shot without having to worry about dropping the camera, it's not the normal thing.
