And a higher price tag. Most likely well deserved

Price tags tend to fall. Being the first is always more expensive and risky.

I had talked myself into a K3 II until the K70 announcement. Now I'll have to wait.

Pentax could easily play a wild card and give us a 'consumer' FF - Polycarb body, less knobs, lower FPS, smaller buffer etc. It must have crossed their minds.

I'm quite sure you are right about that, but it wont happen soon. Pentax are too occupied by fulfilling the K-1 orders. If I understood it right, it still pushes their production capacity. I guess it will be at least two years before we get that camera. But I can't imagine they will reduce fps down from 4,4.

better video performance (probably).
I've not seen anything in the specs to suggest the video quality will be any different at all to what Pentax have offered for the last 4 years.

It has continuous AF in video mode, with certain lenses, and the performance of this is unknown yet also.

Nothing else video wise looks to have changed.

It can AF track in video mode and operate aperture smoothly (for selected lenses) . So better video for those who are not experienced videographers.

I hope K-70 has the best AF in LV between Pentax cameras.

It will definitely have the most toys at its disposal to achieve this.

Lower FPS, smaller buffer ?? I think the 'consumer' FF you're talking is the K-1 itself, it's priced like a consumer FF, has a low FPS & shallow buffer, if there is another one it's got to be faster than this not slower. You cannot get slower than 4.4 FPS in today's times

Let's keep in mind that both "true" entry level DSLRs on the market were announced at a higher price than the K-1. Yes, they're cheaper now, but that's because the D610 was announced almost 3 years ago, and the 6D, almost 4 years ago.

I also don't believe Pentax could support a lower end FF DSLR; it's not enough just to cut on features. That camera must remain desirable, and actually sell in higher quantities to offset for the lower margins.
What's lacking? Affordable but good, modern lenses. A second hand market filled with higher-end lenses at very good prices. A large installed user base. Those can attract people on a somewhat tighter budget.
However... all that could be offered would be a slightly cheaper but less featured camera.

A7 R II 42mp 5fps, 23 frames raw total; 24 seconds to clear*

D810 36mp 5fps 23 buffer frames raw total; 10 seconds to clear

K-1 36mp 4.4 fps (Imaging resource measured 4.6) 17 frames total; 31 seconds to clear

Canon 5Ds 50mp 5fps (IR says 4.9) (it has dual imageprocessors for that) 15 frames raw total; 12 seconds to clear*

Sony a7r 36mp 4fps. 15 frames raw total; 13 seconds to clear

It is just a characteristic of high mega pixel sensors. You cannot shoot as fast as lower mp sensors. Yeah it is a bit slower than the newer competitors but negligibly. Only the d810 has a significantly deeper buffer and faster clearing time. I would agree that Pentax should try to do something about that clearing time.

I've found that every second of buffer clearing time feels like 4-5 seconds of regular time.
So the K-1 actually takes 2-3 minutes to clear its buffer.

Definitely a field camera. I guess if you use the auto-bracket thing at 5 stops, which I have done for sunsets, you end up waiting a while for the buffer to clear.
