Hmm. K-01 revisited? Put a really good EVF on it and it's a winner.

Perhaps. But if they do go that route, and it is just a brick without a proper EVF like the K-01, then I don't see it being any more successful than the K-01 itself was stateside.
I agree 100% with both of you - I've said multiple times that lack of EVF is the only reason I purchased a K-30 instead of a K-01. BTW- part of my reason for making my original comment is that the sensor in the K-70 looks like an MILC sensor to me ... but the real issue is whether the agreement between Sony and Pentax bans its use in a Pentax MILC.

The most likely way to continue that trend would be to introduce a K-3iii and a K-07 {K-70 repackaged as an MILC}
My guess is a high-end APS to replace the K-3 and K-3 II and a mid-range APS to replace the K-70.

The high-end APS will probably not be named K-3 III, and should have improved AF tracking capabilities (using a better CPU, maybe the PRIME IV from K-1 or a dual CPU approach as some other competitors).

The mid-range APS will probably be very similar to the K-70. It may receive the AF module and the light metering of the K-3: the current TTL 77 metering appeared in the high-end APS in 2009 with the K-7 and was taken by the mid-range APS three years later with the K-30; four years after the K-3 is the right time to expand its use.

2018 will probably be a more critical year for Pentax: 645z will need a replacement, and the K-1 too, but I doubt they will be able to do both.

How could they possibly justify replacing the K-70, which is less than a year old???

They won't. If something doesn't make sense, they won't do it.
Perhaps we'll see an entry level camera though.

I don't know how they classify the k-70 and the Ks-2. If they're classified differently, probably we'll see a ks-2 and a k-3II replacement. The k-70 is too fresh to be replaced. Plus, the user feedback seem good.

Here we go again with names. The k-500 was substituted with the ks-1. K-50 was replaced by ks-2. Now we're back to just "k". K-70 replaces ks-2. Pentax names are confusing. What's in a name? It's only a name.

The could simply "do a Leica" and name the new camera Pentax K. Then we'll need a serial number lookup web tool like Apple has so you'll know if you have a "Mid 2017 Pentax K" or a "late 2020 Pentax K"

Or go McLaren and use names like KP4-12c.
We're discussing too much about something not really relevant. There are only a few Pentax cameras, all we have to do is to remember which is what.

Be great if you let us know how the K-70 compares to the K-50 once you get it. I don't mean in terms of specs but in everyday usage.

I am thinking about the same upgrade but wondering if it's worth it.

K50 compared to K70

I have the K70 and use it nearly every day with a Sigma 18-300mm. I also have a K50 with 55-300WR usually mounted.

It's been raining here lately and I've mainly used the K50 with the WR lens on my daily trips to the local parks.

I've done a little testing and find that the K70 will handle extremely heavy crops a little better. The K70 LCD screen is useful, though not as much as I thought it might be.

Image Quality? Well, to my eyes, both cameras are fine. I'm sure pixel peeping would find the K70 images slightly better. In practical use, there is little or no difference. I'm a JPEG shooter and can't comment on RAW files.

Is the K70 worth the upgrade? I thought so,....but I still think the K50 is a fine camera.

If you think the K-50 is comparable to K-70, then why not want for a few months for the K-3 III, it should surely blow away the K-50.
