Oh wow, looks like a new NR system. I guess NR was done by the main chip previously, and will now be done by a dedicated chip. This could speed things up and improve how photos look. I wonder how much this affects raw photos, or if its just for jpegs and video.

Maybe it supports the Pixel shift process. Maybe such a procedure appears in a new implementation, requiring more processing power.

Or just overclocking the chip.

There's an accelerator chip, AFAICT, wasn't there before and you hint about overclocking a chip?
In an embedded mass produced device? Really? How really practical would that be ?

Doubt it's used like this, but using this info with the movie electronic stabilisation would improve things.

Presently the movie SR doesn't use the movement data available to the mechanical SR system, so it only detects motion based on what's moved on the visual image.

This has been shown to get confused with the likes of ceiling fans etc, which wouldn't be the case if it used sensor data and knew it wasn't actually moving at the time.

Perhaps it detects the motion blur vector, and removes the noise that is not associated with the direction the camera was moving.

That sounds really great! Movie mode and SR in video has generally been a weak-point to Pentax, and it would be nice to see them address this. What you mentioned makes sense

Reminds me of the old math co processor chip used in PC's some 30 years ago or so. Back when the 8086 processor had an 8087 co processor chip.

Or the special graphics units added to modern computers, especially on those intended for gaming.

GPU now pretty much follows FPU from decades ago and gets integrated into the CPU. Should be standard pretty much everywhere very soon.

Well, for that to happen, Intel would have to start making integrated graphics that didn't suck. Or, if you've decided the Desktop is Dead, it's already that way on tablets and smartphones . . . which sell more than desktops & notebooks do now.

Would be cool if this sped up distortion correction!

I'm really interested in seeing just how the accelerator unit improves image quality. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like it in a K-3 successor later this year or early next year.
