Samyang announce 20mm f/1.8 in K mount

Hi all !
I have just seen the new announcement of the Samyang 20mm f/1.8 for K-mount. It's a 13 elements in 12 groups system, with 2 aspherical lenses. It is supposed to weight 493g and the launch price seems to be 549 euros.
You can find more infos here : Samyang Optics, Lenses for Camera ? Cine ? CCTV ? Photo, Prime Lenses & Third party Lenses

Seems to be a good companion for the K-1. Eagerly waiting for first test results and real life pictures ...

Before distortion correction, the resolution from the MTF chart looks better than what my A20/2.8 gives.
But although it's early days yet,
the skyscraper at the top right of the sample shot on the website does look curved,
so Samyang may be pulling their usual wide-angle stunt
of getting high edge resolution at the cost of unacceptable barrel distortion.
Then, by the time you've corrected that distortion, the edge resolution drops
to what you get from the more reasonable distortion/resolution compromise in a Pentax lens.

It's always nice to see new lenses in the K-mount family.
I look forward to the lenstip (or other) review.

It's just stock images. If you look at the 14mm 2.8 they have the exact same images, but with different information. I find this pretty annoying, how hard is it to go out and take a photo as a reference Guess we'll find out soon enough

If Pentax doesn't come out with their new wide and ultra-wide primes pretty soon, they'll likely see some potential buyers of their new wide prime lenses settle for these Samyang lens instead of waiting....

Good catch!

Not only annoying for us, but potentially tarring the new lens with the flaws of their older ones.

Anyway, thanks to Samyang for making Ricoh's marketing look professional!

Exciting! Samyang makes some great lenses. I LOVE the 135/2. I also have the 14/2.8 but find it almost too wide on full frame. I had been thinking about getting the 24/1.4 but now I might wait and see the reviews/user thoughts on this 20mm.

Agreed, with the prices of AF lenses like the F20 - FA24, today, in short term the Laowa with their 12mm, Irix with the 15mm and now Samyang with the 20mm (beside the already available Samyang 14mm and Laowa 15mm) im already discard the Pentax offering of new wide lens (as good as they can be, i doubt they come near the price tag of the Irix or Samyang [about 550e] or even the Laowa [at 950e]), granted no one of this have AF, but Samyang have been showing high quiality on their optics, Laowa is crafting their name with the 105mm STF and Irix is TBD...

Maybe i could buy the 20mm, and with the 31/43/77 have a good relatively small group of fast lenses.

Samyang is certainly making some of the most exciting new lenses right now.

THANK god someone listened to my whining/dreaming about a 20mm lens. One cannot have everything (slower but more lightweight lens), but 500g is the upper limit for me if image quality is right, so I hope this lens delivers. With 7 blades I will probably get my beloved DA-15mm-limited-like stars from light sources. I will keep my fingers crossed for a stunning lens.

Sounds really cool! I'm still waiting for a modern 28mm (from Pentax, Sigma, or Tamron or Samyang.. come on, somebody!), but 20mm is a very popular focal length these days, and f1.8 makes it a little special. Decent price tag, hopefully it goes down just a bit. All in all, good stuff

7 blades but they are rounded so it'll probably be more like the 15mm hd rather than the older 15mm as far as star bursts are concerned. Guess we'll see soon enough

Back in the film days my favourite lens was the Pentax 24 mm, so I have been long hoping for a modern version. However, I reckon a 20 mm would do nicely being a bit wider but, with the 36 Mpx of the K-1, there is ample scope to crop to a 24 mm FoV if needed. So in my view, 20 mm would be the sweet spot.
