I think we missed something because we were all busy with K-1 and Q. The Ricoh WG-series is already overdue for an upgrade. Only the WG-5 GPS is in the collection at the moment. This is just a rehashed #4 or #3 of the series. Introduced in februari 2015 and was on a yearly upgrade.

So either it is late. Maybe it will come on Photokina. Or maybe there will be no new model.

Looking at sales for compact camera's and the fact that the Ricoh WG-series was already a little under performing camera series compared to the competition, I would say that we don't see any new model.

Cipa for the first 6 months of 2016.

(This is not about wg-m series. They are overhere in the action camera section. I don't think they sell well since they are not unique, not from a big Brand and not cheap.)
If there is no wg-6 in the works --what might be a good alternative camera with a microscope mode and good led lighting?

Maybe that sealife camera, in one of the threads. No idea about the offerings from others.

Ron is trying to tell us Pentax is doomed because he is still angry with them for not getting an ambassadorship. He even quit photography altogether and is now a professional Pentax doom sayer.

The fun part is that Finding someone that thinks it's wise to invest in the wg-series is very hard.

What is there to 'invest' in? I'd like one just for the fun of taking underwater shots, but I wouldn't call it an investment like an SLR.

Ricoh-Imaging has to invest in it to make a new series and order a batch that hopefully would find buyers. Not so easy these days.

OK, I thought you were talking about photographers willing to 'invest' in the WG series.

I'm not convinced there is much compact camera market left - not a whole lot they can offer to compete with the cell phones everyone already have.
I have an iPhone 6 s plus .. there is no way in can compete with a compact camera..in microscope mode with the ring lights the images are awesome from the wg-5 but they could do so much better.

Do you mean that the camera needs to provide its own lighting somehow??

Yes this is what was great about the wg-5 a ringlight and high magnification mode and GPS.
