It proves they likely buy glass elsewhere, and there are at least twoo other makers... Hoya optics and Schott.

I doubt Mitsubishi was ever inclined to sell the Nikon camera business to Sony. There was never any pressing need to do so.

Neither Ricoh nor Tamron are on that list.
Hoya are on that list. Tamron have said that they make their lenses out of Hoya supplied blanks. But Hoya make their own glass too, so may only use CDGM blanks for specific requirements. Hard to tell what Pentax may use, at the end of the day. Either way, the 'secret sauce' of Pentax optics for many decades has been the coatings, not the glass per se.

And a third one which happens to be Japanese: Ohara OHARA INC. : Optical products

Schott, like Zeiss, belong to the Carl Zeiss Stiftung (=foundation). Otto Schott (1851-1935) was a friend and business partner of Ernst Abbe and Carl Zeiss.

I think thats the case Clackers, no Ricoh/Pentax and Tamron there. But it proves nothing tbh.
Well, that's right, there's no evidence either way.

It was claimed some great truth was being revealed ... but the magician tapped on the hat with the wand, there was a puff of smoke, the music stopped, yet no rabbit appeared! :-)

Major glass suppliers (I bet there are many more smaller ones):
  1. Schott
  2. Hoya
  3. Ohara
  4. Sumita
  5. Hikari
  6. Corning

Hikari belong to Nikon. As for Sumita, I'm not so sure they are into photographic glass.

"Nothing New at Photokina!??!" Time to stir renewed hopes :

At least Nikon (Nikkor PC 19mm f/4E ED and 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR?) and Zeiss (Batis 60mm f/2.8 Macro?) are expected to exhibit new lenses there.

FWIW, Ohara does list Ricoh - well, "Ricoh Optical Industries", that is - as a customer...

Hoya is partner number 1 near a couple of other glass producer.
Most glass companies in Japan are Hoya partners.
Best regards

I think the FA Limiteds have real, substantial appeal. I believe they are successful because they are great lenses, not because they have some "cult appeal" that can "wear off".

You make it sound as if they were "in fashion" and are bound to go "out of fashion".
I think such a view is giving them too little credit.

P.S.: I'm sure Pentax is perfectly capable of providing successors that will provide a cleaner benchmark performance. I'm rather unsure whether I'd prefer those modernised variants for making images.
That is the point: the limiteds are for making images, not for benchmark tests.
Why should Pentax update them if users are happy with the current version? Or maybe a very limited () update, like adding quickshift if it is easy to do.
