At CES, Ricoh could show the most amazing lens ever, and all the journalists would walk straight past and report on the internet-connected toilet roll holder at the next booth instead.

My guess is that they might release one or two lenses at CP+ in February, and show prototypes of some more under glass for the visitors.

What about a K-3 II successor? It's been nearly two years...

We don't know, officially.

But there has been talk by people, who seemingly have had an idea/communication in the past, that one is coming this year. (check the normal bringers of scuttlebutt in this forum for direct quotes)

Maybe we will see more information in late February.

Oh, I know, I know...

I'm just being impatient, I suppose.

I'm sure that the K-3II successor will soon come. We'll just have to be patient. I'm definite that it will be much better considering what they have done to the k-70. What I would like to see are upgrades of the APS-C lenses. I would really love more lenses using PLM drives. I'm still hoping against hope for a software update for my k-5II so that I will be able to use KAF4 lenses. I really love the image quality of my K-5II. It's so hard to part from it.

Depends on how you define 'better'. I still occasionally use my original K-5 as a back-up body; this is essentially the same as the K-5II in the picture-taking department, except for the upgraded AF of the mk II. I got my K-3II last year and to be honest the K-5 is now pretty much relegated to use with a SMC-A50/1.4 on it, as the K-3II is used for everything else. The K-5 is a marvellous camera to be sure and the dynamic range portion of its IQ has always been admired. It doesn't really compare with the K-3 and K-3II in terms of the resolution piece though. Using ETTR, dynamic range of the K-3II is very close to that of the K-5, such that overall body-based IQ is excellent, especially when you add lack of AA and pixel shift into the equation.

It will be interesting to see whether another iteration of the basic K-3 body shell will come out as a new top-line flagship APS-C SLR; my feeling is that they would need to re-vamp the body itself as they did with the K-5 when the K-3 was introduced. If Ricoh want to include a tiltable LCD then they will certainly need to do this, and this is the only part of the K-70 specification that the K-3II doesn't already do as far as my type of photography is concerned (landscape) - indeed, I get much more use out of the GPS function than I ever would with wifi. I rarely use flash, so the on-board flash is no loss - indeed, the hot-shoe AF201 is more powerful and versatile if I ever want fill-in. So - a K-3II replacement being 'much better'? Depends what Ricoh's philosophy is regarding upgrade existing or introduce new, and we don't know that yet as far as the top-range APS-C cameras go. Does a 'much better' camera have more bells and whistles, or does it take much better photos? If the former - the K-3II already has a lot of bells and whistles, and if the latter - well, it would have to go some to significantly improve on what the K-3 and K-3II already give us.

I'm sure that there will be more PLM lenses in the future; the PLM55-300 is very good indeed on the K-3II; sharp, fast, well-built, locks focus really well. I guess it's possible that Ricoh could update firmware for the K-5 and II/S (the hardware is largely the same) for PLM compatibility as they have done for K-1, K-3II, K-3, K-S1 and K-S2, but given that the original K-5 was released in 2010 and the K-5II in 2012, I'm not sure I'd count on it.
